Music is only a means to his end, and only one means among many (who else gives their hairdresser equal billing?).
Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry should begin to happen with this record, which is more of the same rock and roll as only they are capable of playing.
Far from being an asset, the Roxy Music's professionalism was something of a drawback by the middle seventies when it seemed it was being used as a substitute for real inspiration and energy.

Roxy Music, the highly regarded and heavily influential UK pop-art rock band came together in January 1971 and soon achieved a settled line-up comprising Bryan Ferry, (vocals, keyboards); Brian Eno, (electronics, keyboards), Andy Mackay (saxophone/oboe), Paul Thompson (drums) and Phil Manzanera, (guitar).
Following his second solo album, work was completed on their fourth album, Country Life, another strong set ranging from the uptempo single 'All I Want Is You' to the aggressive 'The Thrill Of It All' and the musically exotic 'Triptych'.
Roxy Music's legacy is an inventive body of work that has remained highly influential with current acts such as the Scissor Sisters and Franz Ferdinand acknowledging a debt to the band.

Roxy Music" was released in the interim in 1976 with a compilation of "Roxy Music's Greatest Hits" supported with the re-release of "Virginia Plain" and the Roxy anthem "Do The Strand" as a UK single for the first time.
An album compiled from their first 3 albums simply titled "The Early Years" was released in 2000 with much of this music being relevant and influential to many of the contemporary artists of 2000.
Roxy announced their planned reformation and forthcoming world tour in a press conference in The Savoy in The Strand (of all places) in February 2001.

Before SIREN, America had been blind to Roxy Music's appeal in their homeland of England, and this album was a bit of a concession to the States' less loopy tastes...and it worked.
This is not to say that this album or any of their material can't be damn fun just how it is, simply the inability and frustration of not being able to puncture through to any of the emotional core of it's showey nature, given the potential.
Roxy music melds jazz, rock, disco, and a progressive injection of their own components to come up with the first album to be allegedly coined "New Wave".

Roxy Music's early work is a strange hybrid of glam rock, cocktail jazz, and English music hall.
Roxy Music are a band with a large fan base, huge success (Including live aid/8 performances) and a 2 members who went on to have decent solo career.
I think the thing that made this album was the influence of the non-musician in the band “Eno” who approached things from a non-musical direction made all the difference to the overall sound of the whole album with his use of keyboards and the electronic treatments that where available at the time.

This was Roxy's fifth album and their last before their initial split and it kicks off with the highly commercial 'Love Is The Drug', which is, of course, about sex, not love.
Although not as inventive as their early albums, this is my favourite prior to their first split as I can empathise with it, but then, as Bryan Ferry sings, 'I'm just another crazy guy'.

Roxy Music's fifth album, SIREN, is a return to the form of their first couple of records--that is, it mixes astonishing material with some that, well, isn't quite as good.
A story-song that could describe the beginning of the relationship that dissolves in "Dance Away" (from MANIFESTO, the band's next studio album), it is built on solid rhythm grooves with added flourishes of bright guitar.
SIREN, as the middle album in the band's studio career, includes pointers to both their past and future and is an excellent introduction to the worlds of Roxy Music.

Rolling Stone : Roxy Music: Siren : Music Reviews
Stompy and racing, Siren is a meditation on the temptations of love; it answers the feminine call with yearning, irony and skepticism.
The album is a sort of delirious trek through the world's most decadent fern bar, kicking off with the group's first U.S. hit, "Love Is the Drug," a chugging, hiccup-y metaphor that grinds gossamer flights of romance into a miserable round of search, score, crash and search some more.
His off-key gulps made the singer-songwriter school of rock emotionalism seem rather dated -- Roxy's idea of romance was embodied in their music's attitude, and attitude itself became musical substance.

Siren{{alternateuses}} In Greek mythology, the '''Sirens''' or '''Seirenes''' (Greek languageGreek and#931;and#949;and#953;and#961;and#8134;and#957;and#945;and#962;) were Naiads (sea nymphs) who lived on an island called Sirenum scopuli which was surrounded by cliffs and rocks.
The term "siren song" refers to an appeal that is hard to resist but that, if heeded, will lead to a bad result.
However, later in history Sirens were sometimes also depicted as beautiful women (whose bodies, not only their voices, are seductive), or even as mermaids (half woman, half fish).

'Siren' was Roxy Music's fifth album and the last, excluding the live 'Viva!';, before they went their own ways briefly in 1976 on what Bryan Ferry called a 'trial separation'.
In retrospect it was the most varied and in my view the best, bridging the gap between their early eclecticism and artiness, and the languid (if not turgid) product which ironically sold by the truckload in the early 80s and inspired all those anaemic New Romantic combos.
The No. 2 success (and a US chart debut at No. 30) of the opening track as a single, 'Love Is The Drug', led cynics to write it off as a "Roxy go disco!" set, but they couldn't have been more wrong.
