Rise Against-Siren Song of the Counter Culture - Music Banter
It is obvious that Rise Against is continuing that philosophy with their third album, and major label debut, Siren Song of the Counter Culture, which was released on Geffen Records in the year 2004.
Siren Song of the Counter Culture is definitely a punk record, but has more meaningful lyrics than most punk bands usually do.
Simply put, Siren Song of the Counter Culture is an album that defines what Rise Against is, a band that can embrace different styles of song writing while still maintaining that punk rock sound.

Siren Song of the Counter Culture (Geffen, 2004), was responsible for three Billboard standing songs.
It is a compilation of songs of society and relationships, ranging from nearly pure punk to almost emo, and everything in between.
Songs like “Bricks” and “Chamber the Cartridge” are enough to give us old Pennywise fans nostalgia, and others such as “Injection” and “Prayer of the Refugee” hit hard but leave an impression more simply than having been shaken.

Siren Song Of The Counter Culture by Rise Against
With the surfacing of Rise Against and their major-label debut Siren Song of the Counter Culture, it appears that new talent may be sparking that way as well.
Fortunately, the weak moments on Siren Song of the Counter Culture don't leave anywhere near as strong of an impression as the stronger ones.

DECAPOLIS : Rise Against - Siren Song Of The Counter Culture
I found each and ever song enjoyable and it is probably in my top 10 albums of all time.
They start the album off with "State of The Union" which is a political rant with all the power and aggression they had shown in their previous albums and is probably the hardest song they have ever done.
"SSOTCC" isn't my favorite album of theirs but it certainly did answer the questions that were on my mind and the concerns I had about their switch to a new label.

The next song is my favorite song on the album, 'Tip The Scales' is such a killer song, even though the guitarriff is pretty repetitive I still love it and this is easily the best song on the album anyone who hears this song wount be able to help but love it to death!
The next song is the big single on the album and it is the most original song on the album because it is played on an acoustic guitar and it shows what talent this band has a as well as diversity.
The Siren Song Of The Counter Culter by Rise Against is one of the better albums I have bought in a long time and is with out a doubt the best punk album in the last 10 years so do yourself a favor and pick it up!

Rise Against's 3rd album Siren Song Of The Counter Culture proves that not all punk is the same and that it, as well as other music forms, can expand and evolve in sound and theme.
Sporting songs like "State of the union", the albums heavy punk/hardcore blend of anger which discusses world peace; other tracks like "Tip the scale" and "Rumors of My demise" are more of the old style of punk seen on the bands first record The Unravelling.
Then comes their life experience and just fun story songs like "Anywhere but here", "Give it all", "Dancing for rain" (the band talks about their fight against polution), and a longer cut of "Swing life away" which is a catchy acoustic ballad from their 1st album.

SSOTCC is Rise Against's most recent album (released August 2004) and third record to date.
Their second album, Revolutions Per Minute, is probably the pick of the litter if you ask a die-hard fan of either the band or hardcore because to be honest, SSOTCC isn't produced with the punk MO of doing it yourself, even if the end result seems a bit rough around the edges.
To be honest, some of the songs seem like filler, and there are a few that I skip every time.

Now I’m not saying songs have to be longer than it takes me to vacuum my house but at least longer than it takes to do the living room.
This album is turning into your standard pop/punk fair that the label rushed the band into recording so they could ride the wave that is this genre.
The only song that truly stands out on the album is the one that is on the radio ‘Give It All’.

If it's not "love at first sight" it might easily become an "acquired taste." Such is the case with Rise Against and their CD "Siren Song of the Counter Culture."

It seems to me that this band is very well balanced as far as the type of songs they put on their albums.

I found my Siren Song for the Counter Culture CD again today and I figured I'd blog about it.
The first song, "State of the Union" is fast and brutal, just like its words.
It says "equality: an invitation that we won't extend," and "the words: power, death and distorted truth are red between the lines of the red, white and blue." This song is talking to all Americans: we are guilty of standing by and letting atrocities go on without even caring.

I have all of their other albums (and most comps), because I've always liked Rise Against BUT it wasn't til RPM that they found themselves as a band.
"Six Ways Til Sunday" was their best track before "RPM" and "Siren Song" were released, and compared to their newer stuff, it was not really that great of a song at all.
In songs like Blood Red White And Blue it was fine, but they are so overtly political now its terrible.
