Sitcom (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sitcom is a 1998 satirical movie directed by François Ozon that shows the unlikely coming apart of a bourgeois family that is morally bankrupted when their father introduces a new pet, a white rat.
The title is a reference to American sitcoms, which are often marked by outrageous plots and an offbeat sense of humor.
A possible inspiration for this movie may have been the famous diner scene from John Schlesinger's Midnight Cowboy that features a mother, her son, and a rubber mouse.

Despite taking in many of the clichés of the sitcom - stuffy mother, raunchy maid, bored father etc - Sitcom manages to be continually inventive and the way that it exposes the clichés of the genre is both ludicrously ridiculous and harshly disturbing.
The French director proves with this movie that he's not afraid to overstep several boundaries and make a film that dares to be different, and for that reason this film will never be universally liked.
Sitcom is a movie that needs to be experienced, and it's a film that will divide opinions as much as any other movie ever made.

Flashy `Sitcom' Relies on a Rat / French satire goes nowhere, painlessly
``Sitcom'' is a clever little movie that demonstrates the advantages and limitations of cleverness alone.
The picture is too outlandish to be a satire of families and too unlike a true sitcom to be a satire of television.
While we're at it, ``Sitcom'' is too lightweight to be a fl comedy and lacks the logic of a good farce.

The TV Writers Vault - Pitch Your Script
When considering to pitch a script or idea for a TV show that would be scripted (Sitcom, Movie, Drama Series, Mini-Series) its important to understand the process that an executive or TV Producer undertakes in getting a television show produced.
A treatment for a sitcom will include the premise of the situation describing how the characters came together, the circumstances that hold them together, a description of that world, and an outline of the characters describing their specific agendas, attitudes, peculiar habits, and how they relate to one another.
Drama Series: Similar to the sitcom, but a world apart in terms of story and content, the dramatic series is built heavily on strong main characters that live and work together within a specific situation.

Playing Tess Coleman, a control freak California psychiatrist and single mom who swaps bods for a day with her self-indulgent 14-year-old garage-rocker daughter Anna (played by Lindsay Lohan), Curtis gives a lively, flirty, exhilaratingly goofy performance that really manages to suggest a woman with the soul of a teenager.
The third Disney movie from Mary Rodgers' 1972 teen fantasy novel — best known for that 1977 Harris-Foster version, which came out a year after Foster's scorching run as teen hooker Iris in "Taxi Driver" — "Freaky Friday" starts off as if it were concocted and designed in inflated-sitcom hell.
Since Lohan is supposed to be the magnet for the core teen girl audience the movie wants, it's odd that she's unconvincing as a teenager — and that she's so much better as the sensible Anna, possessed by her adult mom.
