 Our Travel Blog: Sitiawan - Lumut - Camerons
We learnt that all the rooms were fully booked in Sitiawan, however as Linson got the kind help of his "kakis" to make reservation for us at a little known(at least to us) hotel in town called "Flamingo".
Tried to go for breakfast at a little Malay restaurant perched by the river but by the time we reached there at around 11am, the place was closed, so had to settle for some noodles near a wet market in town.
Linson arranged for us to travel by motorbike from Sitiawan to Lumut pier to get over to Pangkor Island, but we decidedto pass on his offer as we did not have a pleasant experience on a bike earlier in the year in Pai, Thailand and could not afford a repeated episode on a bike.

Now, handphone shops are taking matters in their own hands and keeping samurai swords and parangs in their own hidden counters to counter-measure these kind of attempts in the future.
There were 3 staffs in the shop, two guys and one girl so one of the guy quickly went to the backroom and brought out a samurai sword to chase away the robbers.

Noel Jean Maury’s letters he had stated that coming to Sitiawan and Lumut areas was dangerous because they used to encounter tigers, pythons, elephants and cobras.
Once the Church was built in 1929, Sitiawan became an outstation Parish for Taiping with Fr.
Taiping was in charge of Sitiawan during the Japanese occupation(1941-1945) which was not an easy period.

If you do not want to drive to Sitiawan, there are quite a few bus transportation companies which can take you to Sitiawan.
Buses to Sitiawan are very frequent as you will find out.
My suggestion is that you drive if possible as going around in Sitiawan could be difficult without a car or a friend living there.
