  SIWANOY TRAIL - Historical Sign
The Siwanoy resided in small camps rather than villages, and lived off the rich natural resources of their environment, hunting, gathering fruit and nuts from interior woodlands, and fishing the surrounding bays.
Though the legal purchase of land was encouraged by the Dutch authorities, the concept of land as a commodity was alien to the native tribes of the area.
One of the Siwanoy to sign the treaty was Ann-Hoock, or Wampage, reported to be the murderer of Anne Hutchinson.

Regarding the Siwanoy kindergarten situation, Dr. Wilson said the number of kindergartners expected in September now is just a couple of children short of possibly needing to create a third section so that the maximum size of 23 is not breached.
He also said that while the proposed budget was anticipating a drop in enrollment in the self contained special education classes at Hutchinson School, new figures showed a need to sustain those three classes and possibly include an additional teacher elsewhere in the budget.
Colonial and Siwanoy parents have said the budgetary impact of adding two teachers, instead of teaching assistants, to make the separate sections at each school would be less than $35,000-$40,000 for each.
