Review | Six Easy Pieces by Walter Mosley
Six of these stories were published last year as lagniappes to Washington Square Press' paperback reissue editions of the first half-dozen Rawlins novels.
Easy has his own interest in Teaman -- he's heard that she encountered a man with gray eyes, which happen to be the same color as Mouse's.
Easy discovers Teaman murdered, and his personal quest to find out whether Mouse is really gone has to be put on hold, while he tries to figure out if the distraught Boughman, or maybe another one of her lovers (minister Medgar Winters is a possibility), killed Teaman.

BBC - collective - walter mosley 'six easy pieces'
The beauty of Walter Mosley’s sleuth heroes is that they unerringly know when to administer a sock on the jaw as the lead up to (or, indeed, instead of) a tricky question.
Not as compelling as some of his other work in terms of sheer gripping excitement, but Mosley’s reflections on race, fidelity and how to live a good life still flow in and out of the action in an archipelago of rhyme, reason and sheer poetic justice.
Six Easy Pieces by Walter Mosley is published by Serpent’s Tail, out now.

This knuckle-busting, 23' piano suite is Hiller's "masterpiece" in the original sense of the term: the work by which an artist, demonstrating an original style and total command of craft, asserts the right to be considered the professional equal of those already established in the field.
A somber and dramatic piece, full of hidden menace, it has the heft (though not quite the form) of a sonata-form movement.
Underneath the high-speed clowning lies a complicated theme-and-variations in which the ear is continually fooled by recurrences that don't correspond to the variation structure.

These seven short stories are loosely linked by Easy Rawlins' search for his old friend Raymond, aka Mouse, who he had long presumed dead.
The stories take Easy to the homes of poor fl families in the mean streets of Watts in the 1960s, to men who run craps games, and those who provide protection for the games.

Light, Movement, Color, Time: Waiting for Jost with Jost
The features from the early 1990s marked Jost's most extended flirtation with the conventional film narrative and drama, but even the most domestic of those dramas had characteristically Jostian segments wherein the camera essayed elaborate digressions in which disorienting perspectives and an impulse toward visual abstraction were indulged to spectacular and weirdly meditative effect.
Now, in the digital pieces, the impulse to abstraction is out in full force and narrative drama is little more than a minor motif, glimpsed occasionally in the margins.

The cabin's exterior walls and gables are built of pressure-treated "landscape timbers." We purchased 260 of these minilogs (which weigh about 40 pounds each) on sale for a total of $463, and found the 3" X 6" X 8' size much easier to work with than standard logs.
The six walls of the Laughlin cabin measure 8' each, eliminating the need to splice the 8' -long landscape logs as a traditional rectangular shape with longer walls would require.
Since a single eight-foot log spans the full length of each of the six short walls, no mid-wall splicing was necessary.
