Sahih Bukhari - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sahih Bukhari is one of the Sunni Six Major Hadith collections, collected by Muhammad al-Bukhari who spent 16 years writing it.
Sunnis tend to regard this collection as the foremost of their Six major Hadith collections [1], containing only Sahih hadith, an honour it shares only with Sahih Muslim, both being refered to as the Two Sahihs.
It is said that before he placed a hadith in his collection, he would perform ghusl (full\greater ablution) and prayed two Rakah (Islamic unit for form of prayer) Nafl (voluntary prayer) to ask Allah for guidance.

 Session 3, Part 5
But this hadith, although not recorded by Bukhari, has been generally quoted by the major ulema of your sect, including Muslim Bin Hujjaj and other authors of the six collections of Traditions, who have exhaustively dealt with it in their books and do not rely solely on the collection of Bukhari.
So when we compare the Sahih Bukhari with other Siha, we come to the conclusion that on this topic, the Ahle Bait, a hadith, however authentic and fully supported by writers in the light of the Holy Qur'an it may be, Bukhari has purposely failed to record it.
If you study Sahih Muslim and Sahih Bukhari in the light of the books of Rijal, you will find that they have recorded many hadith reported from men who were great liars, e.g., Abu Huraira, the notorious liar, Ikrima Kharji, Sulayman Bin Amr, and others of the same category.

If you acknowledge the justice of all your own ulema, all of whom were recognized by the Sunnis of the past, you should accept as true the hadith, which for some reason has not been recorded by Bukhari.
Imam Muhammad Bin Idris Shafi'i has referred to the authenticity of this hadith in his couplets which Allama Fazil Ajib recorded in his Zakhiratu'l-Ma'al.

 PAR246 Hadith Criticism
The movement to finally record hadiths initiated by `Umar II and Ibn Shihab, though begun somewhat haphazardly, culminated with the six canonical collections after having received impetus from the establishment of the sunna as the second source of law in Islam, particularly through the efforts of the famous jurist Muhammad ibn Idris al-Shafi`i (d.
With the death of `Umar and the successful promulgation of the `Uthmanic recension of the Qur'an, the two major fears regarding the use of hadiths were significantly diminished.
The report that the Umayyad caliph `Umar II commissioned the first collection of hadiths must be dismissed as untrustworthy because of the number of contradictions in the account and the absence of references to Abu Bakr ibn Hazm’s work in later literature.

Muhammad: The Last of the Prophets
The documentation of ahadith stating clearly that the Prophet of Islam was the last of the line of true prophets begins in the first century and continues upto the fourth century when the compilation of the major collections of Hadith came to an end.
For example, it is said that the expression means: "the Prophet has reached the ultimate in excellence in all respect," that is, he was the last or seal of the prophet in the sense that he carried prophethood to its final point of development.
Turning to the description "seal of the prophets" the meaning of the reference to the absence of a male descendant of the Prophet now becomes clear: Muhammad may not live on through his male descendants according to your way of thinking, but he will live on for ever in a much more important way.

Some say this had occurred by the beginning of the 10th century a couple of centuries after the finalizing of the major collections of hadith.
What is clear is that long after the 10th century the principles of ijtihad continued to be discussed in the Islamic legal literature, and other Asharites continued to argue with their Mutazilite rivals about its applicability to sciences.
It slowly fell out of practice for several reasons, most notably the efforts of the Asharite theologians, who saw it as leading to errors of over-confidence in judgement.
