Sixth-rate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sixth-rate was the designation used by the Royal Navy for small warships mounting between 18 and 28 nine-pounder guns on a single deck, sometimes with guns on the upper works and sometimes without.
For ships smaller than sixth-rate, see main article rating system of the Royal Navy.
Some larger ship-rigged, flush-decked vessels, were rated, which meant they were large enough to rate a Post-Captain in command, instead of a Lieutenant or Commander.

Today's decision marked the sixth time since last June that the central bank has boosted the funds rate in an effort to slow the speeding economy and keep inflation from escalating.

SignOnSanDiego.com > News > Business -- Fed raises key interest rate for sixth time
WASHINGTON – The Federal Reserve on Wednesday raised interest rates for the sixth time since last June as policy-makers continued their efforts to make sure a strengthening economy does not trigger unwanted inflation.
The Fed's goal is to move the funds rate from an accommodative stance, where it is still stimulating extra economic growth, to a neutral stance where the funds rate is neither stimulating growth nor holding the economy back.
The Fed announced that it was raising its target for the federal funds rate, the interest that banks charge each other, by a quarter-point to 2.5 percent.

Fed cuts interest rates a quarter point; sixth cut in 2001 - Jun. 27, 2001
The rate is at its lowest since April 1994, when the Fed was just beginning to raise rates long after the recession was over, and its current cycle of cuts may be ending now.
The Fed, in a statement accompanying its decision, also indicated it may not be done cutting rates for the year, saying it still is concerned about the sluggishness of the economy.
Since the beginning of 2001, the Fed has cut the federal funds rate six times, lowering it from 6.5 percent to 3.75 percent, its biggest series of cuts since it carved 5 percentage points from the rate between July 1990 and September 1992 at the end of the last recession.

 Mumps Outbreak -- New Jersey
The attack rate in the vaccinated children in the sixth grade was 4% and fell within the 5%-10% primary vaccine failure rate observed in clinical trials (3).
Since the attack rate for each grade was directly proportional to the percentage of unvaccinated students, the higher attack rate for sixth graders most likely reflected the fact that sixth graders were not covered by the law.
Vaccine efficacy was estimated to be 91% for sixth graders, with a 95% confidence interval of 77%-93% (Table 3).

 Understanding the Basic Agreement
(For on-call editors the scale rate used for golden time is the hourly rate under Schedule C-1.) On a sixth day, when members are already receiving one-and-a-half times their normal rate, golden time is double their sixth day rate, so that their total pay is three times their standard hourly rate.
The calculation is based on the rate you would otherwise be receiving at that time: if you are already in overtime, then night premium adds ten or twenty percent to your overtime rate.
Overscale employees should note that overtime is based on their overscale rate only if that is specifically negotiated into their deal memo.

Fed Increases Key Interest Rate to 2.5% (washingtonpost.com)
It was the the sixth quarter-percentage-point increase since June, when the group started moving the rate up from 1 percent.
Longer-term rates are influenced by the federal funds rate but ultimately are determined by financial markets in response to the overall demand for capital and investors' inflation expectations.
At 2.5 percent, the rate is so low that it is still stimulating economic growth, the Federal Open Market Committee said after the meeting in a statement nearly identical to one issued after its previous meeting in December.

 Current Writing
The sixth interest-rate cut of the year by the Federal Reserve may not be more successful in stimulating the economy than the others.
Moreover, the credit-card rate, which primarily consists of a debtor's risk component, is bound to rise again as unemployment increases and economic uncertainty raises all market rates.
If it reduces interest rates further in order to stimulate the economy, it is bound to exacerbate the inflation; and if it boosts the rates in order to fight inflation, it will aggravate the recession and raise unemployment.

 Fed Cuts Rate Quarter-Point
The Fed cut its target for the federal funds rate, the interest banks charge each other on overnight loans to 3.75 percent, the lowest since April 18, 1994, when the funds rate also stood at 3.75 percent.
Its first rate cut was on Jan. 3, so that reduction wouldn't show up in economic activity until July at the earliest.
Still, some economists believe economic growth in the current quarter may have slowed to an anemic annual rate of 0.5 percent, down from the 1.3 percent rate registered in the first three months of the year.

These classes ranged from 'First Rate' (carrying more than 100 guns) to sixth rate (carrying 20 to 30 guns).
