Domenico Ghirlandaio - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The frescoes in the Sassetti chapel of S. Trinita are six subjects from the life of St Francis, along with some classical accessories, dated 1485.
This choir formed the chapel of the Ricci family, but the Tornabuoni and Tornaquinci families, then much more opulent than the Ricci, undertook the cost of the restoration, under conditions, as to preserving the arms of the Ricci, which gave rise in the end to some amusing incidents of litigation.
The Ricci chapel was reopened and completed in 1490; the altarpiece, now removed from the chapel, was probably executed with the assistance of Domenico's brothers, David and Benedetto, painters of ordinary calibre; the painted window was from Domenico's own design.

Pintoricchio - First Period In Rome
That the two frescoes in the Sixtine Chapel were Pintoricchio's first great commission is probable, and it must have been with exultation that he set to work to give free play to his decorative instincts on the large bare walls.
The deepest interest of the picture centres in these fine portraits of men of the time, and in the landscape which, though this fresco is the most injured of all, is still beautiful in its varied light and shade, and in the lie of the ground in hill and slope and distant vale.
The chapel was probably the gift of Lodovico Buffalini, advocate to the papal consistory, who, we find from an inscription on a stone in the pavement, died in 1506.

In the Sixtine he executed, probably before 1484, a fresco which has few rivals in that series, Christ calling Peter and Andrew to their Apostleship,a work which, though somewhat deficient in color, has greatness of method and much excellence of finish.
Three of the principal incidents are St Francis obtaining from Pope Honorius the approval of the Rules of his Order ; his Death and Obsequies, and the Resuscitation, by the interposition of the beatified saint, of a child of the Spini family, who had been killed by falling out of a window.
The Ricci chapel was reopened and completed in 1490; the altar-piece, now removed from the chapel, was probably executed with the assistance of Domenicos brothers, David and Benedetto, painters of ordinary calibre; the painted window was from Domenicos own design.

The painting of that part of the Sixtine Chapel which is now immortalized by Michelangelos Last Judgment was assigned to him by the pope; he covered it with frescoes of the Assumption, the Nativity, and Moses in the Bulrushes.
These works were ruthlessly destroyed to make a space for his successors more colossal genius, but other works by Perugino still remain in the Sixtine Chapel; Moses and Zipporah (often attributed to Signorelli), the Baptism of Christ, and Christ giving the Keys to Peter.
Pietro, now aged forty, must have left Rome after the completion of the Sixtine paintings in 1486, and in the autumn of that year he was in Florence.

When the Pope's own Master of Ceremonies, Biagio da Cesena, similarly denounced the work by saying that the work was more suited to a bath-house than a chapel, Michelangelo worked his semblance into the scene as Minos, judge of the underworld.

The present magnificence of the chapel owes much to Bernardo de Legarda, a member of the Guild from 1762 onwards.

Vincent Art Gallery: About Sandro Botticelli
In 1481 Botticelli was one of several artists chosen to decorate the walls of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican.
But as his three frescos begun in 1481 on the lower wall of the Sixtine Chapel shows, Botticelli was well able to achieve monumental effects.
He soon became a master of the large format: in his "Cleansing Sacrifice of the Lepers" the center emerges naturally, the multi-figured groups connect, giving unity to the scene, and foreground, middle ground and background merge into each other.

In the frescoes of the Sixtine Chapel ceiling the pose of the body of his figures accentuates the muscles and other anatomical features.
The color patch of the Sixtine Chapel ceiling is unstable in the sense that any distortion of the mix could easily lead to shocking effects, as can later be seen in many Mannerist works.
The three-dimensional illusion of depth is still clear in the ceiling frescoes of the Sixtine Chapel, but in the "Last Judgement" (1536–41) there is much less three-dimensionality left and his "Crucifixion of St. Peter" (1542–50) in the Pauline Chapel in the Vatican is almost two-dimensionally flat.

The " Last judgment," in the Sixtine Chapel, was suggested, and Sebastian had the melancholy task of taking down Perugino's masterpieces ; but he wished to reset the walls for oils, and Michelangelo stipulated for fresco, saying that oils were only fit for women, so that no agreement was arrived at.
