The study was designed to investigate whether harbour porpoises in the Baltic Sea form a distinct population separate from animals found in the Kattegat and Skagerrak seas.
The results show that female harbour porpoises in the Baltic Sea are morphologically distinct from females in the Kattegat and Skagerrak seas and these differences probably would not exist if animals from the two areas interbreed.
Harbour porpoises in the Baltic Sea should therefore be managed separately and measures should be taken to prevent bycatches of this likely endangered population.

Kragh-Jacobsen’s latest, the English-language Skagerrak, demonstrates those attributes represent the core values of a director who, freed from artificial restrictions, turns out to have a deft touch with an ensemble cast and a masterful control of tone.
Kragh-Jacobsen has directed Skagerrak in a classical style sometimes called "invisible." That is, it eschews the authorial flamboyance of, say, Dogme.
But the director’s employment of light is as careful and expert as his handling of the cast.

Project Separation of spring and Autumn Spawning Herring...   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
Catches of herring in the Kattegat and Skagerrak are taken from a mixture of two main spawning stocks (Anon., 1991): the Baltic spring spawners and the North Sea autumn spawners.
The North Sea autumn spawners (NSAS) enter Skagerrak and Kattegat as larvae and migrate back to the North Sea at an age of 2-3 years (Rosenberg and Palrnen, 1982).
The herring stocks in the Kattegatt and the Skagerrak have traditionally been separated by the average counts in number of vertebrae in herring samples (Rosenberg and Palmen, 1982; Gröger and Gröhsler, 1995).
