Lushootseed - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lushootseed is a member of two main divisions of the Salishan language group, Coast Salish and Interior Salish.
Lushootseed, like its neighbour Twana, is in the Southern Coast Salish subgroup of the Salishan family of languages.
The language was spoken by many Puget Sound region peoples, including the Duwamish, Suquamish, Squaxin Island Tribe, Nisqually, and Puyallup in the south and the Snohomish, Skagit, and Swinomish in the north.

 CENTRAL PUGET SOUND
Petitioners argue that language of previous ordinances shows that the County’s intent was to prohibit rezones.
Ordinance 16331 clarified ambiguous language in Ordinance 16291; Ordinance 16331 did not substantively amend Ordinance 16291.
The language adopted by Ordinance 16331 does not change the meaning of Ordinance 16291; the amended language more clearly states the County’s intent that the zoning classification of those lands located outside of Natural-Resource Lands would not be affected by the adoption of Ordinance 16291.

 135 Wn.2d 542, SKAGIT SURVEYORS v. FRIENDS
Where the language to fashion a remedy is broadly stated and the statute at issue is to be liberally construed, we have cautiously interpreted the statutory authority of the agency to allow, in limited circumstances, orders for relief that may not be specifically set forth in the statute creating the agency and defining its powers.
Skagit Surveyors and the County assert the Finding of Invalidity leaves the County without the necessary zoning ordinances in place to control development, and that such a consequence is so monstrous and absurd as to constitute an arbitrary and capricious decision.
Skagit Surveyors and the County overlook the obvious: sound public policy required the County to enact conforming development regulations as soon as possible after the Finding of Invalidity, rather than leaving Skagit County landowners in the lurch as to how their land might be developed.

Moffat, representing Skagit County, noted that the IUGA designation involved a County-wide process and voiced a concern as to how one city could shield itself from that process.
We find that Skagit County is not in compliance with the GMA with the adoption of its ordinances pertaining to IUGA’s:  Skagit County Code #14.04 as amended, #15038, #15280 (amending), and #15794 (readopting #15589); and with its use of the EES high projection as its population forecast.

A dual language program, also known as two-way immersion, is different from traditional schools that teach students who speak languages other than English.
About 10 years ago, the school attempted to implement a program similar to the dual language approach where English- and Spanish-speaking students were taught in both languages, but school officials had difficulty finding enough bilingual teachers, Principal Evelyn Morse said.
Burlington administrators are in the final stages of studying dual language programs and plan to make a presentation to the School Board later this month.

Wherever possible, the meaning of a statute is to be derived from its plain language.
[4] Nonetheless, the County argues that the language in RCW 4.12.020, "shall be tried", controls over the permissive language in RCW 36.01.050.
The better approach is to give effect to the "may be commenced" language in RCW 36.01.050 and read the two statutes as complementary.

 Lushootseed Language, Literature, and Translation
Some translators opt for translations that are quite literal and strive to preserve many of the literary patterns and characteristics of the original, while others are much freer translations and conform to the style of English storytelling in order to reach their English-speaking Native and Non-Native audience.
Also, though we will read the stories in English, we will hear and look at examples of storytellers telling their stories in their native language, and we will examine how knowledge of the structure and sounds of the original language of the stories can help in understanding their translations.
We will investigate who uses the various pieces of literature and whether they are, or could be, useful in local language preservation efforts, or whether they are better situated in academia.
