Skarloey Railway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Skarloey and Rheneas worked hard for many years, but eventually the demand for slate decreased due to cheaper slate being imported from Italy.
After World War II the railway was in a poor state, and the old mines had become ammunition dumps.
In 1965 the railway celebrated the 100th birthday of Skarloey and Rheneas with the opening of a new branch line to Lakeside.

 Games - Skarloey Railway
, the Skarloey Railway is a narrow gauge railway which runs from the main line at Crovan's Gate to the passenger terminus at Skarloey.
It was later realised that the line could carry visitors to the local landmarks of Skarloey (which means 'Lake in the Woods') and Rheneas ('Divided Waterfall').
The Skarloey Railway today continues to produce slate despite competition with the mainland, and takes tourist traffic around its part of the island.

The mythology of the Skarloey Railway is based very directly on the Talyllyn's struggle for survival in the late 1940s and 50s - the original owner Sir Henry Haydn Jones is matched on Sodor by Sir Handel Brown, and Talyllyn manager Edward Thomas by Peter Sam, the Thin Controller.
The MSR itself is a rich melange of references to the old 3' gauge Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, Snailbeach District Railway and Col. Stevens' Empire in England, the Welsh Highland Railway, the Ffestiniog Railway, and the Corris Railway in Wales, and last but not least the Estrada de Ferro Madeira Mamore in Brazil.
The Railway and the Narrow Gauge Museum at Wharf station are together a lasting centre for the Rev Wilbert's legacy.

Skarloey's role could've been given to Sir Handel, not only because it would fir Sir Handel's character, but it would also see a return for the fellow.
The same attitude of Skarloey in this episode was seen in Rheneas & The Dinosaur, in which he shared this with Rheneas, another maturity of the Skarloey Railway.
It also shows a strong continuity of the Skarloey Railway stories, as it shows proof of Sir Handel being naughty and shut away from last episode.
