	Skatepark - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		A skatepark is a purpose-built recreational environment for skateboarders, BMXers, and inline skaters to ride and develop their sport and art.
		The modern public skatepark is a relatively new creation, made possible by legislation stating that skateboarding is an inherently "hazardous activity", and therefore municipalities and their employees may not be held liable for claims of negligence resulting in skateboarders' injuries.
		The Paris Skatepark is approximately 5000 square feet (470 m²) of ashphalt terrain, and is complemented with both steel and wooden ramps.

		Skatepark customers for the most part are municipalities paying between $100,000 and $250,000 for the typical skatepark, which more often than not is taking the place of some aging pool or ball court in a city park.
		For skateparks, the ramps and rails are made of powder-coated steel, and the transition plates are made of aluminum.
		The Hawaii Skatepark Association wrote a review of the park a year ago, posting digital photos of the rust spots (seen here) and awarding the park a half star out of a possible five.

		The last skatepark meeting was held during December, and some progress was made on the final selection of a site.
		Building a skatepark that is primarily for beginners may be OK for a small neighborhood park, but if you want to be on the map in the skateboard world, you will have the best, most advanced, most innovative design/terrain that can be afforded.

		The skatepark property is part of a 165-acre redevelopment project in eastern Carlsbad, California, and with San Diego County’s rapid growth in the past decade, the once isolated parcel on which the skatepark sat became central to the Carlsbad industrial zone.
		All 165 acres is being developed as a business park, and though the skatepark property was at the far eastern edge, the land proved too valuable for the coalition of skaters and skate-industry representatives to save.
		Carlsbad Skatepark was unprecedented, but served as a model for the skatepark phenomenon that continues to this day.

		This 39-year old mom in Calgary * has spent two years helping her son and their friends raise $39,000 for a skatepark *-- then attracted an additional $50,000 from a grant and their province to get the park built.

		At the grand opening of both Mililani and Keolu skateparks, Mayor Jeremy Harris said, "We're going to have 21 of these (skateparks) around the island within the next couple of years." Of these 21 parks, nine were planned within the 2002 budget, and unfortunately only 4 were built.
		For those unaware, this is a first for Hawaii's skateparks and by going the design/build route, this will ensure higher efficiency and more freedom and creativity when the perfecting the design - all within the same cost frame as the other parks.
		While Dreamland Skateparks is by far the best choice (in terms of cost and quality) for mainland design/build crew, the local contractor and mainland skatepark crew collaboration on these projects is a much needed step towards better parks in Hawaii.

	Skatepark on the Charles
		The Charles River Conservancy's proposal for a skatepark in the New Basin emerged in 1999 from the designs of students enrolled in a Radcliffe Seminar in landscape architecture.
		As advocates for the restoration, renewal, and maintenance of the Charles River Parklands, the CRC recognized the concept of a skatepark along the river as a wonderful way to bring skaters as well as spectators to what would otherwise be an underused area in the vicinity of the Zakim Bridge.
		The proposed location for the skatepark is directly under I-93 on the water's edge where the concrete pilings anchor the new bridge.

		Built in 1979 in China Creek South Park at Broadway and Clark, it's one of the oldest existing skateparks in North America and it's still used on a daily basis by a regular crew of devotees ranging in age from 10 to 40 years.
