Grammar school leaders are launching a fightback against the Government's ban on more selection in secondary education.
The National Grammar Schools Association, which represents almost all the 164 remaining selective schools in England, has pledged to seek the "opening of new grammar schools, especially in areas where they do not currently exist".
Under a change in the association's constitution, ministers and the Opposition will be challenged to recognise the success and popularity of grammar schools and overturn the law that bans further selection.

The school was originally designed to take seven boys and educate them in Latin and Greek grammar and ultimately send them on to Magdalen College, Oxford.
By 1877 the number of pupils had fallen dramatically and the re-construction of a grammar school with new standards began.
In 1933 the school was transferred to the new Skegness Grammar School and the building stood empty, apart for military use from 1939-1945.

So I took a post in a school, Chipping Campden Grammar School, which was of much the same size and character as Skegness Grammar School when I had known it.
I heard of one woman who said to a farmer’s young daughter that she wished he would stop the cattle from coming up to the top of the field behind her house, because the smell was offensive.

The pupils of Skegness Grammar School held a Sponsored Workout in aid of LEPRA at the end of 2002 and raised the fantastic sum of £360 towards helping our work.
Camilla and Bradley Barker - pupils from the School in Lincolnshire - decided to do a little fundraising of their own after hearing about the work of LEPRA from our local community fundraiser Brenda Durham.
So they braved the cold and windy conditions of early March and, even though Camilla was nursing a sprained ankle at the time, they went ahead with their plans to complete the 4 mile walk and raised a further £272 - helping LEPRA to cure another 12 people.

Amanda Black, 23, who was born in Lincoln and lived in Lincolnshire most of her life, and moved to Skegness in August to teach at Skegness Grammar School, has won a coveted place in next year’s ‘Formula Woman’ motor racing championship.
Her father, Stuart Black, who has recently retired from the RAF, said ‘it was clear she was a natural racer from the very first day she got behind the wheel’.
She completed her PGCE at the University of East Anglia and she has just started a new career as a PE teacher at Skegness Grammar School and Sports College.
