  Skenfrith Castle
What we see today at Skenfrith Castle was constructed by another Norman lord, Hubert de Burgh, a structure composed of a four-sided curtain wall (with its towers) and the fascinating round keep which dominates the interior.
Today, the best-preserved portion of Skenfrith's moat is located on the eastern face of the castle, farthest from the parking area, which can be reached from outside the castle.
Skenfrith's charm is its round keep, which immediately grasps your attention as you cross the footbridge and through the main gateway.

Skenfrith Castle, along with White and Grosmont, is one of three castles built to protect one of the main routes through the border region between England and South Wales.
He built modern stone castles at Grosmont and Skenfrith, but unlike at Grosmont where the shape and size of the castle was dictated by the old mound on which it was built, at Skenfrith the site was levelled and an entirely new castle was constructed.
Although all three castles were maintained by the Lancasters, only Grosmont was used as a home and further developed, leaving Skenfrith Castle pretty much as Hubert built it.

His changes only become a problem when the Gorgs believe he is a monster, and he complies.
