		A skewbald and piebald is defined by its external visible coat colouration and markings and not by its genetic makeup or type.
		American term which generally means either piebald or skewbald, however there is also a technical difference in that they have different meanings.

		When describing a horse which is a skewbald, (there are others known as "Ovaro"), Piebald, or Tobiano, the horse is often just called a "coloured", or "paint".
		In the words Piebald and Skewbald, the "bald" part means "painted".

		A skewbald or piebald in 18th century Great Britain seems to have been any horse with broad splashes of white in any size and any pattern, what we would call a "Pinto" today.
		Nineteenth century turf writers occasionally noted that skewbalds, piebalds, and duns were "previously seen" on the racecourses of Great Britain, but that they had all but disappeared.
		As noted previously, a later filly named Skewball was listed in the General Stud Book as chestnut but was from a "roan/pyebald" mare, and it seems likely she, at least, was splashed with notable white markings.

		Looking at these two MW definitions, it appears to me that the only difference is that skewbald horses have no fl on them.
