	Ski tow - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The first ski tow was apparently installed in 1933 by Alec Foster built the at Shawbridge in the Laurentians outside Montreal, Quebec.
		Their tow was driven by the rear wheel of a Ford Model A.
		Although largely supplanted by chair lifts, which have the great advantage of not blocking off a portion of the mountain, rope tows are still common at ski areas around the world, particularly small areas or in relatively flat portions of ski areas devoted to beginners (often called bunny slopes).

		Powered by a Model-T Ford, this ski tow was little more than 1800 feet of rope spliced into a loop stretching from the bottom to the top of the hill and returning along a series of pulleys.

		The words "ski tow" appear on the 1973 White River NFS map, about 3 miles south of Rio Blanco at elevation 6930 ft. We have found no text references.
		Used a portable rope tow in 1966 and a portable poma in 1967 with 1000 feet of vertical.
		Which ski area CLAIMS to be the "largest ski area in the country" even tho they do not lead in ANY category, including: vertical drop, number of trails, acreage, number of lifts, lift capacity, number of skier days, or even highest lift ticket price.

		My family was heavily involved in clearing trails, constructing and running the rope-tows, and organizing the private recreational club, the Locust Lawn Club, that generated dues to pay expenses.
		Both of my parents were avid skiiers and my father created and ran the ski tow at Locust Lawn.
