No Life Til Metal - CD Gallery - Skid Row
Like Slaughter, another band lumped in with pop crap, I didn't get into these guys until long after their popularity dropped as I never gave their music a chance.
Skid Row cover four of my favorites (Kiss, Judas Priest, Rush, Jimi Hendrix) and one that I have a lot of respect for and have seen live several times (the Ramones), even though I am not a collector of their music.
Skid Row wait until after grunge destroyed most of their contemporaries to release the follow up to their multi-platinum 'Slave to Grind.' Musically the band totally abandons the pop metal leanings and goes for a heavier, and meaner 1990's hard rock slam.

Skid Row's sophomore effort, Slave to the Grind (1991), was the first metal album to debut at Number 1 in the American charts, despite the bad publicity generated by Bach.

 The Band - ExampleProblems.com
Dubbed "The Band" by their record company (a name derivative of what the group was referred to as during their tenure with Dylan), the group left the comfort of their communal home in Woodstock to begin recording as a group unto themselves.
Both Big Pink and The Band were also hugely influential on their musical contemporaries, with both Eric Clapton and George Harrison citing The Band as a major influence on their musical direction in the late 1960s and early 70s.
In 1974, The Band reunited with Dylan for a concert tour; it was hugely popular (perhaps the most profitable tour by any recording artists to that time), and resulted in a live album, Before the Flood.

Skid Row’s last effort, Thickskin, with new voice Johnny Solinger was hit and miss and pretty much did nothing other than offer us a silly punk version of ‘I Remember You’.
In fact, Solinger’s voice is the most interesting thing about the album in that he sounds both like a present day Baz (see Bach’s Frameshift II performance as a reference) and like a guy with his own identity, singing his balls off with his middle finger in the air.

 The Band Summary
They belong to a tradition long gone, yet the revival of which the members of The Band considered to be beneficial to a country that yearned for a change but did not really know where to look for it.
The songs of The Band should not be taken as nostalgic pleas for the past, for the simpler things in life or for values long lost and gone.
It is a pleasant irony, therefore, that The Band's records have aged so easily, while those of contemporaries like Jefferson Airplane or Country Joe and the Fish already sounded dated a couple of years after their release.

Gary Moore - Biography - AOL Music
Skid Row would go on to issue several singles and albums (including 1970's Skid and 1971's 34 Hours), and although the group mounted a few tours of Europe and the U.S., it failed to obtain breakthrough commercial success, leading to Moore's exit from the group in 1972.
Moore then formed his own outfit, the Gary Moore Band (along with members drummer Pearse Kelly and bassist John Curtis), for which the guitarist also served as vocalist.
But once more, Moore's tenure in his latest outfit was fleeting; he appeared on only three recordings (1976's Strange New Flesh, plus a pair in 1977, Electric Savage and War Dance), as Moore accepted an invitation by his old buddy Lynott to fill in for a Thin Lizzy U.S. tour, playing arenas opening for Queen.

Pitchfork: The Beta Band: "Out-Side" [Track Review]   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
Opening with lumbering drums and a windmilling guitar strum similar to their previous single "Assessment", The Beta Band's "Out-Side" is the narrative of a man hunting down his maiden, punctuated with birdcalls, barking dogs, train engines, and bleeping synths ripped from Guerilla-era Super Furry Animals.
Earlier Beta Band songs unfolded in movements as this one does, but here the deliberate structure feels more assembled than it does extemporized by a live band.
The band offers the first hint of this in the echoing guitar stabs that open the track, just as the band's insanely tight rhythm section kicks in.

 Ink 19 :: Skid Row
Like the Japanese soldier who was found in the 1950s on a remote South Pacific island assuming World War II was still on, bands like Britny Fox, Warrant and Skid Row persevere, totally unaware that their names are forever associated with spandex, forgettable music and, well, bad hair.
Although the spandex may have gone away a decade ago -- as has the bad hair, considering vocalist Sebastian Bach is no longer part of the group -- not much has changed in the music department.
In fact, when the only positive thing I can say about Thickskin is that it's not as bad as Britny Fox's god-awful offering from last year, Springhead Motorshark, you know the return of Skid Row is about as welcome as Michael Moore at Charlton Heston's house.
