 Little Wars
Miniatures, still known in Britain as war games, a term reserved in the States mainly for board wargaming, remains a thriving pastime in both nations; and miniatures gave direct birth to the board wargame and to roleplaying, and indirect birth to computer gaming and collectors card gaming.
The best games are the most elegant, in the sense of providing superior simulation and entertainment value for the least effort at mastery; and the appeal to intellectual engagement is, or ought to be, the main appeal of the superior game.
The sophisticated game designer knows, of course, that, given a sufficiently large number of random number tests, the results regress to a mean; so to condemn a game that relies heavily on die-rolling as being luck- rather than skill-dependent, is absurd.

 Games People Play
Based on the Chronicles of Amber written by Roger Zelazny, it is a very open system, which can lead to either incredibly good games, or incredibly bad ones, depending on the skill of both the GM and the players.
The original premise for these games was that all of the Amber elders dumped their children on Shadow Earth, as kind of a mutual non-aggression pact.

 Oroborus Universal Roleplaying
One of the big differences between Challengers and most superhero games is that Challengers made a serious effort to incorporate the super powers system into the skill system or at least into an analog of the skill system, rather than handling them as an entirely separate set of unique abilities.
One of the games which influenced the development of Oroborus was Challengers, Ragnarok's original superhero game published in 1987.
The paranormal powers system in Oroborus is an outgrowth of this idea, but takes it farther and has integrated and systematized powers even more.

RPGnet: Review of Star Wars Roleplaying Game Revised Core Rulebook
Skills in Star Wars work much as in D&D. Your maximum skill ranks is your level +3, or half that for a skill not normally associated with your Class.
Thus, in the Star Wars Roleplaying Game, every time a Tained or Dark character gains a level, they stand a chance of losing a point of Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution.
Although there are significant differences between Star Wars and D&D, the games have many basic concepts in common.

 Theoretical Speculations about LARPs.
Most LARP mechanics out there right now are gamist (which amuses the hell out of me, given the stereotypical LARPer's insistance that they're so far beyond D&D-like games) in that they reward player skill with the mechanic.
In addition, LARP's tend to be insensitive towards desires to, for example, "imagine" that such-and-such a player is being convincing in his speech when he's actually a stuttering idiot, so that's also, to a certain extent, gamist, in that player skill is required and tested.
Most larps map the physical location to a game location, and anything outside the game location is handled by GM fiat/tabletop roleplaying/mechanics etc. For example, if we're playing Vampire, then the larp room maps to Elysium (a Vampire sanctuary) and anything happening in the city outside Elysium is handled by the GM.

RPGnet: Review of Dragon Lords of Melnibone
RPG rulebook, you'll see that Chaosium literally just did a quick cut and paste job on it, replacing BRP (Basic Roleplaying, or d100) stats with d20 stats (this being possible as BRP was originally very very close to DandD, basically taking all the stats and adding a d100 skill system).
While the Elric!/Stormbringer games weren't bad, some (or at least me) feel that BRP is best suited for realistic games, or semi-realistic fantasy, not the epic, high fantasy of Elric.
RPG rulebook was pretty good (although notably lacking in some areas, like planar travel, which Elric does quite often).

 What is Simulacrum
Simulacrum is different from other games not so much in the way its rules work, but in what it tries to simulate and the design philosophy behind it.
Skills are not based on attributes, but the speed at which a character masters a skill is. Skills are learned by being taught, using them, self-study and by immersion (being picked up while performing some other task).

White Wolf, from a buisness point of view, is a successful company, it sells a product that reaches many people, and quite frankly, can be a hell of a lot of fun to play.
The fact that White Wolf was willing to expand a system from a tabletop environment to a live action game belays a level of expantion to the game that most miss.
