Skinboats were developed thousands of years ago by the Inuits who were the native hunters of the far north.
The Inuit hunting skinboats were constructed just like the skinboats of today except we use modern materials not the skins and sinew of seals and sea lions.

 Time to Get Nuts Again
The good ole Stealth and the little 12 foot skinboat I covered with ballistic nylon and 2 part urethane I got from Corey Freedman from his skinboat school in Anacortes, Washington are the boats I chose for this excursion.
When we got back I drug the skinboat across a gravel flat and then across a sand bar and landed her right hard into a sand bar a couple of times.
Corey also is a master skinboat builder and has some of the most beautiful traditional skin-on-frame boats you've ever laid your eyes on!

 Naval & Maritime History Books: Whaling
British poet and ethnographer Lowenstein has done research among the Tikigaq people of Point Hope, Alaska, for nearly 20 years.
For three seasons he served as a crewman in a skinboat during the whale hunt; here he introduces the village, the oldest continuous settlement on the continent, and its topography.
From the storyteller Asatchaq, Lowenstein heard about the whale myth and the elaborate rituals of the hunt, which he retells in poems in these pages.
