Skippy the Bush Kangaroo was a popular Australian television series for children produced from 1966 to 1968.
Skippy was a pet owned by the son of the Head Ranger of the real Waratah National Park, based in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park in northern Sydney, and the stories revolved around the park, its creatures and dangers and their adventures in the Australian bush.
The series was revived in 1992 as the short-lived The New Adventures Of Skippy using an entirely new cast including Andrew Clarke, plot and location with several children as the stars.

There were tearful moments whenever Skippy was ill or the victim of a villainous plot.
My family moved to Australia in 1974 and one of the first places I visited was Waratah Park (it's a real national park) where I saw the TV sets and a very ordinary looking kangaroo which was supposed to be Skippy (must be about 90 years old by now!).
I sense the Skippy on display at the park is an impostor (a bit like the legend of The Phantom where the title is passed on from generation to generation).

Besides the prop-man's hands in the shot for most of Skippy's scenes, we've been highly amused by the fact that Skippy herself keeps morphing in to a wallaby in every third shot and Sonny really does need a second shirt.
There are plenty of shots of the very menacing roo/wallaby, koalas look generally like they've had a hard night at the pub and always want to cross the road when the bad guys are driving on them, and if the harmonica soundtrack is anything to go by, possums are downright evil.
A brief search on the internet has failed to uncover a Skippy the Bush Kangaroo drinking game, and we feel this is a sad indictment on Australian Culture.
