I was hoping that Skipstone (which uses Mozilla routines for rendering) would be faster.
Skipstone seems slightly faster in some areas, but overall on my hardware it has a similar sluggish feel.
Skipstone seemed to grab the data from the modem quickly and get it up on the screen right away.

Skipstone can't run without a copy of Mozilla.

Skipstone (Austin, TX) is shipping a FireWire development toolkit, the TK-10.
Hopefully, FireWire's acceptance also means the end of some truly brain dead consumer electronics interfaces, like the ubiquitous Toslink found on many laser discs and CD players; as well as a hopeful farewell to SP/DIF (Sony/Philips Data Interface).
Gary Hoffman, President of Skipstone, and the chairman of the 1394 Trade Association, has predicted that FireWire will become a standard consumer electronics interface in 1996.

Skipstone has acceptable startup time on a 32MB machine and is completely usable with no obnoxious delays, yet it has all of the features you would expect to find in Mozilla, because it is built on Gecko.
The only downside is that the Skipstone install requires Mozilla, since it uses Mozilla's renderer, but I'm trying to think of Skipstone as a small addon to Mozilla that triples its speed, and that seems to be helping to put my mind at ease.

Galeon is a GNOME app, whereas Skipstone uses only GTK+.

I downloaded the Skipstone RPM from their website and it got luckily installed without any errors or dependency problems (Yay!!).
Looks like the Skipstone RPM is compiled against a version of Mozilla that's too old for it to work against the one packaged in RH9.

Skipstone is an independently developed frontend for Mozilla so Mozilla people dont controll it or how it developes.
It is meant to just install and use already present files from a full Mozilla installation like the many frontends for IE under windows.
However the developer of Puppy wanted to keep his distribution small so he used Skipstone, but just added the actual files from Mozilla that Skipstone needs to function, leaving off any extra Mozilla bloat.

Being a Puppy Linux follower, Barry (the mantainer) has used Skipstone and more recently, Firefox as the browser.
They run very well in general on my systems, but Puppy does not like my NeoNMagic video card in this system.
It looks like Mozilla, at least the Mozilla header files, are required for Skipstone.

 Linux for PlayStation 2 Community
I think SkipStone would be an excellent browser for PS2 Linux.
Although you do need to first install the huge Mozilla before compiling Skipstone, the light Gecko engine is all that is used, and that gives you a small, fast browser that has the industries' best standards support, including SSL.
I am going to set up my Linux kit tonight, and give compiling Mozilla and SkipStone a shot.
