The second house known as Skipton Hall was built opposite the brook where the Hawthornes are, by Captain Thomas Skipton in 1661.
He resided chiefly in his benefice of Magilligan and Benevenagh, but the house was occupied by his wife, Isabella, daughter of Gervaise Kennedy and grand daughter of Horas Kennedy, who lived there with her son and daughter-in-law.

The first house, known as Ballyshaskey, was built in 1622 by Alexander Skipton, the first of the Skiptons to come to Ireland.
He alienated much of the Skipton property in favor of his son George on his marriage with Elizabeth, daughter and heiress of Sir Alexander Staples, Bart., of Faughanvale, and also of the Ash Family, on the intermarriage of his niece Elizabeth Holland with John Ash.
His son and heir, Thomas Skipton, succeeded at Beechill, and added the wing towards the brook, and also the bow windows, removing to do so a square projection in the centre of the drawing room front.
