Gerðr's name is thought related to garðr "enclosure" thus her name in Old English would be Gearde.
Gearde is wife of Frea (Frey) and her wooing is portrayed in the Skirnismal of the Elder Edda.
She should probably be seen then as a Goddess of the fields.
