Skokholm - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Skokholm, view from main pembrokeshire coas, Wales, UK Skokholm is an uninhabited island off south west Pembrokeshire in Wales, lying south of Skomer.
This island was made famous by R M Lockley, a pioneering ornithologist, especially famous for his work on puffins and shearwaters, who wrote many books featuring this island, where he lived and researched for many years.
The island was bought for £300 in 1646 by William Philipps, a barrister and it was kept in the family for the next 360 years until his descendant Mrs Osra Lloyd-Philipps (1920 - 24 March 2005) of Dale Castle died.

Studies of attendance at breeding colonies throughout the season in the Razorbill on Skokholm (Lloyd, 1973; Lloyd, 1976a) and elsewhere (Lloyd, 1975b) have shown that the number of birds in a colony increases gradually to a peak in the nestling period.
Our findings suggest, however, that the Skokholm Razorbills may be barely able to maintain their numbers and that they may not have the reproductive capacity to increase once numbers have been reduced as a result of a sudden temporary in- crease in adult mortality or decrease in breeding success.
