Skoll, a Montreal native who graduated with an electrical engineering degree from the University of Toronto before heading to the Silicon Valley, is focusing his philanthropic efforts on two areas: supporting entrepreneurs strategically and financially, and attracting media attention to their success.
Skoll said his interest in philanthropy started at a young age when he realized that many of the world's problems such as war, famine and crime were caused by the gap between the haves and have-nots.
