It flows from Skootamatta Lake to join the Moira River north of Tweed, Ontario.
Up until 1908, the river was use, to transport logs to sawmills in the Belleville area.
Skootamatta lake is situated near the town of Cloyne,Ontario.

The Moira River is located in southern Ontario and flows from the Canadian Shield south across the St. Lawrence lowlands to Belleville and the Bay of Quinte on Lake Ontario.
The headwaters of the Moira River and the entire flow of the Black and Skootamatta rivers are "tea-stained" by natural decomposition of vegetation.
Information on lakes and rivers in the Moira River watershed and adjacent watersheds was obtained from the Kingston Ministry of the Environment (MOE), the Quinte, Cataraqui Region, Crowe Valley, Napanee Region, Lower Trent Region, and Mississippi Valley Conservation Authorities, as well as the Peterborough, Bancroft and Kingston offices of the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR).

The Skootamatta is located on the Western edge of the Land O’Lakes district and flows off the shield to the pastoral lands of the Great Lakes/St. Lawrence Lowlands.
The river is quite small at its Northern end and I cannot imagine canoeing it with water levels being a few inches lower.
There are numerous rapids as the river makes its way off the shield and portage trails are almost non-existent in the northern section of the river.

The river leaves the shield area when it enters Beaver Lake, situated on the edge of the Napanee Limestone Plane.

As we kept pace with the likes of Simon River Sports and Beowolf near the front of the pack…I knew we were in for a good race.
While we were able to keep pace and even pass some of the top teams on the water, we did lose some time on the portages…primarily because Conor and I were not used to racing with Jack and should have done a better job at communicating what we needed him to do.
Well, there was no use adding another team to the search party in such a small place…so we figured that the CP must actually be along the Skootamatta River which flowed from Pearson Lake.

The middle part of the trip centred on a walk around the falls and the historic bridge over the Skootamatta River which flows into the Moira River and out to the Bay of Quinte at Belleville.
Originally called the Skootamata Trail, it was an Indian trail that followed the river and became a logging route to complement the riverway.
The Skootamata River used to be dammed to form a reservoir called Slave Lake.

Although the Parking on the Credit multicache series was not necessarily geared towards fishing, each stage is located on, or very near, the Credit River which I believe has numerous spots that are favoured by the angling crowd.
