		Conventionally, "Skurfing" involves using the wake of a boat to glide along freshly created surf without the aid of a tow cable.
		On the other hand, the word Skurfing has more recently been used to describe (at least in my part of the world) a distinct modernization of the surf style skateboarding (SKate-sURFING) technique that has been around since the sport was created by hacked roller-skates and a derelict two by four.
		One could argue that Skurfing is just like any other kind of skateboarding, and thats kind of the point, there are few to none set rules.

		Wakeboarding started as Skurfing back in the mid 80's.
		Tony Finn developled the "Skurfer" a thick plastic, surf shaped board with foot straps that only went over the top of your foot.
		I believe the first "Skurfing tournament was in '87, but I have been known to be wrong before soooo.....In her defense though in the late 70's people were experimenting with all sorts of stuff to drag behind a boat, such as: surfboards, tubes, and wooden discs.

		Its no different than skurfing on a surfboard, besides the fact their are no fins, and its extremely loose, and in my opinion, a lot more fun.
		Yes, the water in the area is shallow near shore, but after the first twenty feet or so near the marsh it drops off quickly to a lot deeper...
		Any other safety concerns about skurfing I'd be happy to talk about, but I think you are seriously underestimating the intelligence of the groms and the nature of skurfing.

		Basically, we attached a length of rope to the bridge with a handle on the other end (we didn't have a handle, so we used a length of branch from a nearby tree).
		We then held onto the handle, arranged ourselves on a surfboard and 'skurfed' into the river.
		The concept was similar to wake-boarding except instead of being towed by a moving boat, we remained stationary thanks to the bridge whilst the water flowed beneath us.
