BAe Active Skyflash and AIM-120 AMRAAM
The Skyflash traces its ancestry to the AIM-7E2 and early models employed the airframe, powerplant and warhead of the E2, as the longer range of the AIM-7F was not considered necessary for the close-in interception role.
The follow-on to the Skyflash is the Improved Skyflash, the principal design changes were a series of upgrades to the SARH seeker and a Kinematic Upgrade program, which saw aerodynamic changes to reduce airframe drag and changes to the control system.
The wing actuators are embedded in the missile centresection, in the wing hub assembly.

The British Aerospace Skyflash was a UK medium-range semi-active radar guided air-to-air missile derived from the US AIM-7 Sparrow missile and carried by Royal Air Force F4 Phantom and Tornado F3 interceptor aircraft.
It can be launched from as low as 100 m to attack a high altitude target or conversely launch at high level to attack a target flying at 75 m.
These aircraft were replaced with the Tornado F3 from 1985 which carry the Skyflash in semi-recessed wells on the aircraft's underbelly to reduce drag.

 Douglas D-558-3 "SkyFlash"
In 1954, Douglas Aircraft proposed its own rocket-powered spaceplane, the D-558-3 "Skyflash," to compete with North American's design for the then-hostly contested NACA contract.
Although Douglas engineers were making steady progress in solving the multiple challenges this concept posed, the U.S. Navy pulled its sponsorship of the Skyflash in 1955, and the project died while still in the wind tunnel testing stage.
This was a typical Anigrand release featuring crisply cast resin pieces and a vacuform canopy.
