		Although Skyforger is known for their folk metal tradition, their style overlaps with fl and death metal in later albums.
		Skyforger is also one of the best-known folk/pagan metal bands in Europe.
		Skyforger was also involved in a minor scandal with one of their former producers, who believed their affiliation with Neo-nazism.

		Skyforger is a band that I had been always eager to interview and I was lucky to have a meeting with guitar player Rihard.
		Latvia is usual small Baltic country; as you might know recently we parted from USSR (13 years ago) so then it was a terrible time, our nation was almost close to obliteration, our language was out of use and in all places Russian was the main language.
		Skyforger could not be possible in that time That's also one of the reasons we are so proud of our nationality and language and generally our culture.

	Skyforger, Finntroll, Gods Tower
		The album relates, in Latvian, the story of the 8 regiments of Latvian riflemen who joined the Czarist Russia army in 1915 to repel the Germans...and died in droves over a period of several years.
		Latvian Riflemen begins with artillery fire and a Latvian military chorus and progresses into nihilistic tuneless speed fuzz with yelling vocals, the drums perhaps mimicking machine gun fire.
		There are two of what I suppose are contemporaneous poems set to music; the rest of the songs, with lyrics portraying the real historical nightmare of doomed military units in a harsh country, are by the Skyforger guitarist "Peter." The stark fl and white vintage photographs add to the horror.

		You most probably call this Pagan Metal, musically coming from the Melodic Black-corner, but pepping up the sound with a good portion of Latvian folklore (especially in the melodies) and quite some surprising influences from the more traditional Metal.
		That they sing in Latvian might be a scare-off for some of you, but I like the foreign sound of this language, which makes the whole thing even more original than it already is.

		While their sound can be labeled as Baltic pagan metal, roughly similar to Skyforger, they in fact remind me somewhat of the English Dogs, sans the dynamism, mystery, and song craft of the Dogs' more metallic ventures.
		Obtest's effort is there though, offering a thick sound of pagan metal with a little thrash and punk affinities mixed in.
