The beginners guide to the mosh pit
Moshing started, it's thought, at punk gigs during the 18th century, where a primative form of body slamming became popular at gigs and has evolved to the artistic stature that it is today.
At these gigs, members of the crowd will gather at the front and will furiously and passionately shove/ push/ body slam each other in time to the music.
But the idea is not to cause any harm to each other(even though that's usually the case) but just to enjoy the music in a less passive way, like you would if you were to dance to any type of music.

Hardcore dancing (or hXc Dancing) is a form of mosh (or slam dancing), an activity performed in a mosh pit at hardcore music concerts.
This style of dancing became popular during the hardcore reformation, when bands such as Snapcase, Split lip, and Endpoint peaked in popularity although the dance was not limited to bands of that style.
Similar to the two-step in break dancing and country line dancing, it involves throwing one leg back, and then swinging it all the way around before throwing it back again, landing on it and repeating with the other leg.
