		Slane Castle is a castle located in Slane village, County Meath, in the Republic of Ireland.
		Slane Castle is currently occupied by his eldest son, the Earl of Mount Charles.
		The resident of Slane Castle, and heir to the title Marquess Conyngham, Henry Mountcharles (who had changed his name from Henry Coyningham to Henry Mountcharles because of name recognition and his migh media profile, ran a credible campaign for a difficult seat in Louth on behalf of Fine Gael in the 1992 Irish general election.

		On Slane Hill (152 m/499 ft), according to tradition, St Patrick lit a fire at Easter in 433, proclaiming Christianity throughout Ireland.

	A BRIEF HISTORY OF SLANE CASTLE
		Slane Castle, the home of The Earl and Countess of Mount Charles, is renowned worldwide for the annual Rock Concerts held in the natural amphitheatre in front of the Castle.
		It seems probable that the Slane Estate was bought from the Williamite government by General Henry Conyngham in 1701 and that the family have been in continuous occupation of the Estate since that date.
		The present head of the Conyngham family is the seventh Marquess Conyngham, and the Castle is currently occupied by his eldest son, Henry, the present Earl of Mount Charles, continuing an active association between the Conynghams and Slane dating back to the beginning of the eighteenth century.

	Francis Ledwidge Centre - Slane

		The support acts may have been a damp squib but the 'Material Girl' gave what was possibly one of the finest performances to hit Slane Castle, if not this country.
		Being a Slane virgin, and hearing so many stories about traffic jams and tailbacks etc. I got there early, but was still passed on the Navan to Slane road by the queen of pop herself, complete with a police escort.
		Thanks to the wide vocal range of backing singer Siedah Garrett (more famous for her duet with Michael Jackson), they were able to recreate the gospel choir sound, and it"s the one song lyrically that everyone within the grounds of Slane Castle were familiar with.

		Over 80,000 people witnessed the band live at Slane Castle and as ever when I see an excellent band performing live on film I wish I had been there.
		To be fair to the Chilli's that is pretty much how it is and this DVD release which was filmed in August 2003 at the bands triumphant Slane Castle concert is proof if indeed it were needed that the Red Hot Chilli Peppers are one of the tightest and most exciting bands playing live today.
		The sound quality is excellent and both Flea and John Frusciante are superb throughout although as a whole the Red Hot Chilli Peppers as a band are a pretty tough act to follow as many bands at festivals throughout the world have found to their cost.

		The lesson would be that U2 was not too big for their britches and when you watch the 2002 concert film "U2: Go Home: Live From Slane Castle, Ireland," there is ample evidence that nothing has changed during the intervening years.
		The concert itself is from 2001, when U2 did two huge shows at Slane Castle, which is where they recorded their "Unforgettable Fire" album (thereby explaining why the documentary on that album and the recording of "Pride (In the Name of Love") is included on this DVD).
		You watch U2 in concert, or put on this DVD and turn up the sound because for some reason the music sounds better than on a CD, and it is hard not to agree they are not the best rock 'n' roll band in the world.
