Golden Axe - Review: "Classic Amiga Hack n' Slash 'em Up"
Golden Axe - Review: "Classic Amiga Hack n' Slash 'em Up"
Basically its all wild slashing with axe and sword, charging and headbutting, but you can also knock the riders off their dragons and mount them yourselves and breath fire, swipe with your tail, charge etc. which adds variety.
Basically its a beat'em up but with swords and magic, and there are very few moves you can actually perform considering you have one fire button and a directional stick - a combination of button presses and moves make some more impressive stuff kick in though.

In NetHack, Slash'Em and Rogue this is the Amulet of Yendor but, as mentioned above, Advanced Rogue and up had randomly assigned quest items carried by a unique monster (more on the monsters later) and in NetHack and Slash'Em side quests are possible.
I'm by no means a high level expert and as I mentioned, I've only won one game of Slash'em.
I did manage to kill the Wizard of Yendor and the High Priest in Moloch's Temple in another game but a bug in that version of the program caused an invalid page fault when I tried to pick up the amulet.

The Newgate Calendar - BENJAMIN TAPNER, JOHN COBBY, JOHN HAMMOND, RICHARD MILLS, RICHARD MILLS THE YOUNGER, AND OTHERS
Chater asking what they had done with Mr Galley, Tapner slashed his knife across his eyes, almost cutting them out, and the gristle of his nose quite through: he bore it patiently, believing they were putting an end to his misery.
They had not gone above two hundred yards before Jackson called out, Whip 'em, cut 'em slash 'em, d--n 'em; upon which all began to whip, except Steele, who led the horse, the roads being very bad.
Galley and Chater continuing asleep, Jackson went in, and began the first scene of cruelty; for having put on his spurs, he got upon the bed, and spurred their foreheads, to wake them, and afterwards whipped them with a horse-whip; so that when they came out, they were both bleeding.

I finally arrived in Gehennom. Now what?
In Slash'EM, the Valley of the Dead can be quite nasty, thanks to high-level spellcasters such as vampire mages who can summon hordes and wake up all the monsters on the level.

The Valley of the Dead counts as Gehennom, and so does Juiblex's level (despite being watery and not looking as hellish as the rest), but Vlad's Tower does not.

 NetHack Additions
To use the NetHack tiles, save the file to your NetHack or SLASH'EM directory, and then modify the defaults file as following.
These tiles of course might work on older or newer versions of the program, depending on when new tiles were added (SLASH'EM added quite a few new tiles in 7e2; NetHack has not changed its tiles in awhile).
Since the patch affects only gehennom.des and dungeon.def, the NetHack program itself is not changed (but note that only games started after the patch is installed will see the new levels).

Fighting game - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In this type of fighting game, usually known as a beat 'em up (or occasionally brawler), one or more players (most often two, but sometimes as many as six) each choose a unique character, and team up to punch, kick, throw and slash their way through a horde of computer-controlled enemies.
Fighting games in general are sometimes referred to as beat 'em ups, although that term is sometimes used to specifically describe the "scrolling fighter" sub-genre.
Typically these games are side scrollers with players generally moving from left to right, but there have been some three-dimensional versions which allow relatively free movement throughout a level and the ability to face in all directions.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3: Mutant Nightmare
Stages tend to have multiple routes, and movement is free-roaming, so the game has more of a hack-and-slash vibe than a typical arcade-nuanced beat-'em-up.
Further contributing to the hack-and-slash atmosphere is the game's camera viewpoint, which is top-down instead of third-person (as it was in the two previous games).
This game is a pure brawler through-and-through, which means you won't be forced to perform silly jump sequences in the middle of a freakin' boss fight.

 Tips on Guitar Chords
A chord over a different bass note, or a slash chord as it is usually called, is often used to create a certain bass movement: a forward movement, ascending, descending or static.
For instance, if you already know how to play the Em chord, it shouldn’t be too difficult for you to learn the E chord, which can be played by simply adding one note on the 1st fret of the 3rd string to Em.
A chord is defined as a collection of three or more notes sounding simultaneously, so a power chord is not technically a true "chord." Additionally, since it contains no 3rd, a power chord is called neither minor nor major.

 FEATURE: Riven! - Teens
Riven isn't blatantly "Christian," but it is a far cry from many of the typical hack-'em, slash-'em, games on the market.
You, the player, are the main character in Riven, a fascinating story about rescuing the proverbial "damsel in distress." Everything is seen from your point of view.
Thus begins Riven, the sequel to Myst, the best-selling computer game of all time (3.5 million copies!).

Lego Star Wars is a satisfying hack-and-slash, but more importantly, the Lego style gives players a fresh way to see the franchise.

You could do that, yes, but if you actually wanted to WIN the damn game you would discover that this game actually required careful timing, strategy, and puzzle-solving skills (Even though the main theme is to slash, hack, stab, mutilate, bash, dismember, squash, and liquefy anything that happens to move in the game).
Splatterhouse was very subtle in that in LOOKS like a game you're supposed to play like Double Dragon in that you run around and mindlessly pound the shit out of everything that moves (like many other side-scrolling beat-em-ups that would follow in Double Dragon's footsteps).
The reviewer of the original Splatterhouse already touched on all this in his (very humorous) review: The gory blood-spattered visuals, the eerie music that set just the right spooky kind of tone, the sounds of the carnage that was taking place...

Strider 2 for PlayStation 1 Reviews at Shopping.com
The new moves our pixelly ninja has obtained are a super-slash combo, the ability to run, a more intense, action oriented playing field and a boost button that gives you a boomerang-ish hit 'em anywhere shot that has a meter that runs out a little too quickly.
Strider II comes off as a little game in a tough crowd this fall, but one thing that may make this game a success is that its a sidescroller with 3D backgrounds and 2D characters that's actually worth the while.
Strider II is the sequel to a VERY easy Genesis game< even on hard and with no continues> so it comes as no suprise that Capcom tried to make the successor a tad tougher, did they succeed, well, partially.

 Rogue.html
The basic plot for a game of Rogue (I will use Rogue to refer to Rogue, Nethack and Slash'em unless I am referring to something game specific) is simple.
Games like Adventure or Zork, while extremely entertaining for a while, were the same every time they were played so once the puzzles were discovered they lost much of their charm and the game creators, obviously, would know each game's secrets and would not have fun playing the games.
The two games are far more advanced and subtle than any of the Rogue games with a tremendous amount of little quirks and tips and tricks to be learned for each character type.

PS Meeting 2003: Sengoku Musou Announced News for Famitsu on GamePro.com
As Asian history buffs probably already surmised from the title, Sengoku Musou will attempt to do for the age of Oda Nobunaga and Tokugawa Ieyasu what Dynasty Warriors did for the era of Liu Bei and Lu Bu—turn it into a fast-action slash-'em-up pitting your general against thousands of enemy warriors.
While no gameplay video from Sengoku Musou was shown at the PS meeting, Koei was nice enough to reveal the spanking-new logo they've got for the game.
At today's PlayStation Meeting 2003 in Tokyo, Koei president Yoichi Erikawa took the wraps off Sengoku Musou, a new PlayStation 2 title most aptly described as a version of Dynasty Warriors set in 16th-century Japan, a time of nearly nonstop war in the region.
