Caithness CWS - History - History of Caithness - Chapter 9 - Index
Lord Caithness wrote the Privy Council, strongly asserting that he had no participation in the slaughter of Lyndsay, and that his reason for not answering their summons was fear of his creditors, who, if they found him in Edinburgh, would incarcerate him.
In the meantime, Munro, the commissary, raised a criminal action against the Earl of Caithness and Sinclair of Durran for the slaughter of his brother.
Kenneth Sutherland, third Lord Duffus, forfeited, in the rebellion of 1715, his title and estates.

Jacket 26 - October 2004 - John Hawke: In the Year of Our Lord Slaughter’s Children, by Philip Hammial
In the Year of Our Lord Slaughter’s Children moves beyond what Hammial himself describes as an ‘obfuscated structurality’ (“Jacques”) to present a recognisable traveller’s view of contemporary Africa, a place made so ‘fantastic’ to Western readers — through wars, massacres, and poverty — that it is unreported and unimaginable.
There is, however, a steady development towards an engagement with the politics of representation in Hammial’s more recent poetry — culminating in the current volume, In the Year of Our Lord Slaughter’s Children, which contains some of his most successful and committed work to date.
But this engagement is also natural to the sources Hammial inherits: it implicitly defines the politics of poetic form in avant-garde movements from Berlin Dada to Surrealism in the Service of the Revolution, and stale oppositions of formalism and ‘commitment’ are no longer relevant here.

Lord of the Blog, the Weblog of Lord Soley of Hammersmith: Responses
Posted by: Andrew Price at Mar 16, 2005 8:59:57 AM It would be unfortunate if Andrew Slaughter was pro-war.
Could you ask Andrew Slaughter if he would be willing to set up a blog like yours to answer some questions and put his views across, before the election (and which he can then use afterwards)?
The Labour candidate replacing me is Andrew Slaughter, currently leader of Hammersmith Council.

A Review by The Phantom Tollbooth
Personally, I found a few of the vocal performances rather over-effected, particularly Alvin Slaughter's introduction to "Shout to the Lord." I also find it somewhat distracting to listen to a recording of someone leading a crowd in worship, but there is no denying the vocal strength of Zschech and those accompanying her.
Thrown into the international worship-music limelight by the spectacular success of "Shout to the Lord," Darlene Zschech and the Hillsongs's recordings are now well established around the world.
This recording was produced at the '98 Hillsongs Conference, a worship conference led by Zschech with guests Ron Kenoly and Alvin Slaughter, and has managed to catch a lot of the energy of a live worship event.

Lord Dunsany: Pioneer of Modern Fantasy
Dunsany noted on several occasions the paradox of his voracious appetite for hunting and the slaughter of animals on the one hand and his deep-rooted interest in nature and animals on the other.
The early stories and novels of Lord Dunsany laid the foundations of modern fantasy literature, and yet, despite the profound influence of his exotic and highly polished writings upon the genre, he remains, paradoxically, a neglected and under-appreciated writer.
Dunsany was for a time seen as part of the Irish Renaissance, and Selections from the Writings of Lord Dunsany (Churchtown, Ireland: The Cuala Press, 1912) includes an introduction by Yeats, who at that point sought to "claim" Dunsany for Ireland.

I allude to the slaughter of Lord Kilpont, son of the Earl of Airth and Monteith, in 1644, by James Stewart of Ardvoirlich.
Lord Menteith applied himself to the spigot, drank without ceremony, and then handed the stoup to Anderson, who followed his master's example, but not until he had flung out the drop of ale which remained, and slightly rinsed the wooden cup.
Lord Menteith insisted upon yielding up that which belonged to his rank, on consideration of his being in his own country, and of his near connexion with the family in which they found themselves.

 The Murder of Lord Darnley
By the time Mary gave birth to Lord Darnley's son in June 1566, her husband had backslid into a life of debauchery, neglecting his royal duties and displaying a sullen resentment towards Mary's relationship with Bothwell.
It is unclear whether Darnley himself did the dragging or the stabbing or whether one of his henchmen performed the actual slaughter.
Bothwell was Lord Admiral of Scotland, and although he possessed a reputation for bravery, he was also known to be lecherous, brutal, and power hungry.

Lord Plumb says that at a re-union of those involved in fighting the 1967 outbreak many who had been on the frontline agreed that in those days there was a rule book so ministry vets could get on with the job of combating the disease.
Lord Plumb, who is currently president of the farming charity the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI), was also a member of the committee of inquiry which was set up following the disease outbreak in the 1960s.
The 1969 report he says contained several measures designed to prevent a future outbreak, including the halting of imports from counties where the disease is endemic, the possibility of ring vaccination of livestock, a slaughter policy, animals should be buried and not burnt, and the immediate involvement of the Army.

During the 13th and 14th centuries the Clan, as Lords of the Isles, were at the height of their power, and as Earls of Ross they also held Ross-shire and parts of Inverness-shire.
Alasdair was forfeited for his part in the insurrection of Donald Balloch in 1431, and by one of the complicated arrangements typical of the period, the Lord of the Isles granted these lands by charter in 1443, to Malcolm Mackintosh, Chief of Clan Chattan, though Keppoch retained superiority.
