SLAX is a Linux Live CD based on the Slackware distro.
Slax Popcorn is a small version around 130MB which doesn't include KDE, but is a GTK based version of Slax with XFCE, programs for multimedia, as well as Mozilla software.
SLAX, despite it being open source, was made by one man: Tomas Matejicek, using the Linux Live scripts and Slackware as a base.

Slax auto-mounted all my drives so I could get to my page templates and I carry a USB key with me most of the time anyway so saving my work isn't going to be a problem.
Slax is a very polished distro and I give it tops marks and would highly recommend anyone to give it a go.

SLAX 5.04 desktop O KDE é talvez, juntamente com o gnome, o gestor de janelas preferido pelos utilizadores de linux e nesta versão 3.4 parece ter atingido a qualidade que durante bastante tempo andou escondida.
No slax, ao contrário por exemplo do Kubuntu, os ícones não são desproporcionadamente grandes e parece ser mais agradável de trabalhar que nessa outra versão.

Slax is a small livecd system based on Slackware.
Unfortunately I couldn't give Slax a thorough run through because it didn't recognize the mouse on my laptop.
My current problem is not that it doesn't recognize my mouse but that the current kernel doesn't have a fan power stack and so my laptop overheats if I use it for long.

I've used slax to compile a webcam driver (as a module to load) and installed Qnext to use the webcam for video chats, and all from a live-cd.
SLAX Popcorn didn't seem any better to be honest, so maybe the underlying problem isn't dm related in my case.
SLAX Standard let me configure my wireless network card, but I didn't find any possibility to actually connect to the network via GUI - this might mean you'd have to fire up a console and hope that dhcpcd does its trick, but that's not very convincing...

OK, so I am now running SLAX on my Thinkpad, which is cool, but the real fun or rather the real problems are just beginning.
I cannot get SLAX to recognize my built in wireless adaptor (a Cisco Aironet Wirless 802.11b if you can help me out), so no internet connection for me. That is obviously a major bump in the live Linux road.
The SLAX site also has plenty of other useful and very free modules that are ready to plug in and go, which is another nice bonus.
