Buffy sounds like a girl who has to cheat off your Chemistry mid-term because she was up late making out with her dumb (but hot) jock of a boyfriend.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer doesn't just turn the entire horror genre on its head (blond girl feared instead of hunted); it reinvents what a feminist hero can mean, and in the process creates a figure that, for the devout, has become nothing short of an icon.
But, while Buffy may be in love with Angel (the vampire with a soul who we'll get to in season 2), it's the unrequited love of Xander that ultimately breaths life back into her body.

Joining a slayer in her destiny is her watcher, a person designated by the Watcher's Council as well-versed in demon and slayer lore who trains and guides that particular slayer until her death.
Although much of the show revolves around Buffy's chosen destiny and the history of the slayer lineage, the show also has a strong focus on her group of friends, termed the Scooby Gang, and how they deal with their own lives as they are thrust into the often cataclysmic events that Buffy deals with everyday.

If Buffy finds it difficult to carry out her mission, it is even more of a challenge to lead the double life of a Slayer within the conventions of court life in Japan in the year 980, in a small village in Brittany in 1320, or on a pirate ship in the Caribbean in 1661.
The vampire situation she encounters is pretty good, and Dalkey provides excellent period detail, but I did have a problem with this Slayer being dumped into this situation with minimal explanation (although there is a reason for that in terms of the ending).

Slayer, witch, werewolf, vampire, commando, contractor, vengeance demon, supernatural force incarnate – in other words, they are all average kids, in average relationships, battling the forces of adolescent evil, personified, in Sunnydale at least, by vampires, demons, and monsters.
Buffy needs slang, as a means of shrugging off millennial expectations, as a weapon, and as an expression of personality officially denied her by her role: in a sense, she IS slang, as are those who associate with her.
Undoubtedly, most slayer slang will prove ephemeral, not that there’s anything wrong with that; indeed, short-lived terms and tendencies are often significant in their time and can influence the course of American English, though once they disappear, we may not see the connections between them and what follows them.

She is the Slayer." Buffy the Vampire Slayer ran for seven seasons, from 1997 to 2003, and in that time it revolutionized American TV.
It was a television series that single-handedly reinvented the high school genre, splicing it with action, comedy, and the supernatural to captivate its core teenage audience while providing enough formal experimentation, existential reflection, and, above all, pitch-perfect writing and acting to extend the show's appeal to viewers of all ages.

Then there's Buffy herself, who in the course of seven seasons morphs from a sarcastic teenager in a minidress to a heroine whose tragic flaw is an abiding desire to be a "normal" girl.
