Sleepover (2004 film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sleepover is a 2004 American comedy/teen film directed by Joe Nussbaum and starring Alexa Vega.
In the summer before their freshman year in high school, Julie has a sleepover with her best friends: Hannah, Yancy and Farrah.
In an attempt to cast off their 'less-than-cool' reputations once and for all, Julie and her friends enter into an all-night scavenger hunt against their popular girl rivals.

 Sleepover (2004): Reviews
Sleepover might appeal to 11- and 12-year-old fans of slumber parties, but it likely will leave their parents stifling a few dozen yawns.
In terms of a pre-teen instructional, Sleepover offers throughout a laudable emphasis on the importance of friendship, but parents may rightfully flinch at a protagonist who is ultimately rewarded for breaking all the rules.
The film is probably not evil incarnate, but it's so irritating you wish it -- and just about everyone in it -- would just shut up and get out of your room.

Films that were of such limited release that it would have been impossible for a majority of Cosmo voters to see, particularly films not released in the San Francisco Bay Area, may instead be eligible in the year they were released on video.

The title of the movie infers that perhaps the movie takes place the majority of the time at a sleepover though that is barely the case.
Then the topic turns to Julie having a sleepover party which a friend of her's named Stacie(Sara Paxton) has decided to pass on in order to have a sleepover with her other more socially upscale friends.
With yet another somehow, Stacie and her party challenge Julie and her friends to a scavenger hunt with the seating at the cool and uncool lunch tables near the school fountain as the winning and losing prize.

 TheMovieBoy Review - Sleepover (2004)
The film's moralistic themes and plot trajectory are of a been-there-done-that variety, but its innate predictability almost comes as an attribute.
"Sleepover" makes a few blunders on its obvious path to Julie's romantic first kiss with Steve (that these 14-year-olds would be dancing to the Spice Girls in 2004 is mindboggling), but the film is filled with so much good will that such problems can be overlooked.
There is a refreshing minimum of dumbed-down, scatological humor—only one fart joke in sight, which is a step up from the five or so used in the recent "White Chicks"— and in the realms of teen fantasy setups, the material is treated with a rare maturity.

Filming inside would lengthen the shooting day for the kids and allow flexibility to the schedule by covering as many night scenes as possible during the day.
There the relationships so vital to the film were created and explored while shooting the actual sleepover and subsequent white-knuckled escape from the house in pursuit of scavenger hunt victory.
Once filming had wrapped, the filmmakers felt they had captured a bit of truth regarding the lives of those passing from junior high to high school, a period where, for girls, friends are still a little bit more important than boys would eventually be.

The genius of the film's deceptively simple narrative, as written by Panahi's frequent collaborator, the great Abbas Kiarostami, is how it seamlessly evokes America's post-9/11 immigration policy in the intra-Iranian embarrassments suffered by the film's lead, a pizza deliveryman who shoots himself in the head after a botched jewel heist.
The film's contemporary resonance is as flabbergasting as the subtle and acute precision of its social critique.
Clint Eastwood's tender film achieves an unaffected beauty through graceful understatement, and alongside the stellar Eastwood and Morgan Freeman, Hilary Swank—as a desperate, relentless would-be champion driven to greatness by a grizzled trainer with whom she develops a surrogate father-daughter relationship—delivers a heartfelt performance of stunning versatility.

In 2004, "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle" best represents the legacy of not only placing a brand name in the title of the movie, but also making the movie about the brand.
The film was a domestic box office champ in China and caused a national sensation as women suddenly became paranoid about discovering their husband's affairs via text message logs.

Another positive factor of "The Sleepover" is that the writer was smart enough to steal the first lines of Elizabeth Berg's "Never Change," even though Vega (as Julie) uses these words on an average looking girl who is guarding the door at a high school dance.

Directed by Joe Nussbaum, Sleepover revolves around one of the hallmarks of female friendship: the all-important slumber party.
Far from a mere pillow-fight-laden girl talk-fest, this sleepover includes an intense scavenger hunt against the most simultaneously loathed and envied young women they know: the infamous "popular" clique.
Along the way, the girls manage to hijack a car, sneak into clubs, engage in a first kiss, and learn more than a little bit about themselves and their capabilities -- all while evading the watchful eyes of Julie's mother.
