Search for supersymmetric particles in light gravitino scenarios and sleptons NLSP
A search for sleptons, neutralinos, charginos, sgoldstinos and heavy stable charged sleptons in the context of scenarios where the lightest su per sym me tric particle is the gravitino, is presented.
Data collected during 2000 with the DELPHI detector at centre-of-mass energies from 204 to 208 GeV were analysed and combined with all the data collected from 1995 to 1999 at lower energies.
No evidence for the production of sleptons, neutralinos and charginos has been found, therefore new limits on the mass of these supersymmetric particles and on the model parameter space are set.

Another possible decay of the slepton, in the gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking framework, is into a normal lepton and an invisible gravitino.
We are searching for short-lived sleptons, which are observed due to the fact that their decay products do not appear to originate at the primary vertex, and for sleptons with an intermediate lifetime, where the tracks show a distinct kink within the detector.
If interpreted as a genuine slepton decay, this could be a selectron decaying into an electron and an unseen gravitino, generating the visible kink.

The oblique corrections, the Zqq and Zll vertex corrections, and the vertex and box corrections to the muon decay width are separately studied in detail.
We first study individual contribution from the four sectors of the model, the squarks, the sleptons, the supersymmetric fermions (charginos and neutralinos), and the supersymmetric Higgs bosons, to the universal oblique parameters, where the sum of individual contributions gives the total correction.
We then study the vertex/box corrections carefully when both the supersymmetric fermions (-inos) and the supersymmetric scalars (squarks and sleptons) are light, and find that no significant improvement over the SM fit is achieved.

The names for the spin-0 partners of the quarks and leptons are constructed by adding the prefix "s", which is short for scalar.
The symbols for the squarks and sleptons are the same as for the corresponding fermion, but with a tilde used to denote the superpartner of a Standard Model particle.
In this case the usual assumption is that the gravity is flavor blind and at the Planck scale the gaugino masses are all equal to one common scale, M

What Kusenko and Shaposhnikov showed three years ago is that a sea of squarks and sleptons would inevitably contain tiny variations in density, and that the slightly denser parts could clump together (Physics Letters B, vol 418, p 46).
These bags of myriad squarks and sleptons can exist because the particles are less picky than normal quarks about sharing their space.
In a proton, for instance, there can be no more than three normal quarks, because they refuse to share their quantum state with another quark, and there are only three possibilities to choose from.

ALEPH Searches for Sleptons and Stops at LEP2   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-17)
ALEPH has searched for sleptons and stops in \mathrm e^+e^- collisions at center-of-mass energies of 161 and 172 GeV.
The standard search for sleptons is augmented by a search for heavily-ionizing charged particles, which would be the expected signal if the sleptons were long-lived and decayed outside the detector.
No signal was found by either the slepton or stop searches, allowing greatly improved bounds on slepton and stop masses to be set.

With my collaborator I found a new mechanism for dynamical SUSY breaking that can produce realistic masses for the superpartners (squarks, sleptons, and gauginos) of the observed standard model particles.
We also developed a class of models in which new strongly coupled gauge interactions both dynamically break SUSY and form composite quarks, squarks, leptons, and sleptons.
Previously realistic models have relied on "messenger" (gravitational or gauge) interactions to communicate the SUSY breaking from a strongly coupled sector to the weakly coupled superpartners.

HeiDok - A Search for Sleptons with Intermediate Lifetimes in e+e- Collisions at sqrt(s)=189-209 GeV
Searches were performed for sleptons with intermediate lifetimes (approx.
The topology of tracks with large impact parameters and missing energy, caused by the decay of the slepton to a lepton and a gravitino, was exploited.
Since no evidence for sleptons with intermediate lifetimes was found, the results were combined with searches for promptly decaying, long-lived and stable sleptons, and for all channels upper limits on the production cross-sections were obtained.

In the mSUGRA scenario the superparticles are produced in pairs and the lighter charginos and neutralinos, mixed state of electroweak gauginos and higgsinos, and the sleptons, are less massive than gluinos and squarks.
The associated production of chargino and neutralino is expected to occur via two modes which interfere destructively: a dominant s-mode, through virtual W exchange and a suppressed t-mode, through virtual squark exchange.
The charginos and neutralinos can decay into charged leptons via virtual sleptons or virtual W/Z. The mSUGRA benchmark point selected for performing the analysis corresponds to a chargino mass at the boundary of the LEPII exclusion limit.

 Physics News Update
Detecting the elusive dark matter that seems to pervade the universe is difficult enough, but it's an even bigger challenge to distinguish between the different kinds of the invisible matter.
Candidates for dark matter include pointlike particles such as neutralinos (predicted by supersymmetry theory) and extended objects such as "Q-balls," large bags of particles such as squarks and sleptons which are also predicted in supersymmetry.
Numerous planned and ongoing experiments aim to detect directly dark matter, which is believed to possess energies in the minuscule range of 0.001-0.01 MeV.

These are: the ratio of Higgs VEVs, tan(beta), and the scalar Higgs mixing angle, alpha; the mixing parameters for the Higgses, gauginos and the sleptons; the trilinear couplings; and the Higgsino mass parameter mu.
