SliemaWanderers were officially founded in 1909 although the first game by the Wanderers was played on the 3rd October 1908 against St George's in the Boys Junior football league for Under 21 teams.
Sliema had a number of English players and supporters since Sliema was one of the main harbours for the English fleet in the Mediterranean.
Sliema decided to change their colours and opted for blue which is the colour of the sea which surrounds Sliema and light blue which represents the colour of Our Lady of the Sea which was the first parish in Sliema.

In the year 1982, a meeting was held between the SliemaWanderers F.C. Committee, under the Presidency of Dr. George Bonello Dupuis and Guzi asked for permission to organize a Youth Football Nursery.
The Sliema Nursery was the first one to organise these friendly festivals not only locally but it was also the first Nursery to compete in football competitions overseas, such as in Italy, England, Sweden, Wales, Bulgaria and Egypt.

A goalless draw in front of a numerous crowd at the Ta' Qali National Stadium against Valletta was enough for SliemaWanderers to enable them to be crowned Champions for the third consecutive time while securing a record 26th Championship in the club's history.

The "Sliema" Band played a repertoire of festive and popular marches in a musical and folkloristic manifestation in Valletta and at the Mediterrenean Conference Centre on the occasion of an International Conference for the directors of the largest multinational companies on Monday 2nd May 2005.
At 8.00 pm the "Sliema" Band started playing festive marches from the Lower Barrakka to the Mediterrenean Conference Centre accompanied by folkloristic and historic personalities.
At the Mediterrenean Conference Centre the "Sliema" Band entertained the various directors of multinational companies with its music.
It is considered to be the major trophy after the league crown and the winners compete in the Cup Winners Cup.
The first final was played in 1935 between Sliema and Floriana and since then, there were 59 editions of the trophy with Floriana winning it 18 times, Sliema 17 times, Valletta 9 times, HAMRUN six times, Hibernians 5 times and Melita, Gzira, Zurrieq and Rabat once.
In 1995, the F.A. Trophy changed its name to Rothmans Trophy, obviusly since it is sponsored by Rothmans.
