The Ballistics of The Sling - Thom Richardson
The sling is formed of a length of cord with a loop at one end, a knot (or sometimes a plain end) at the other and a widened section, usually called a cradle, but not necessarily concave, at the centre.
The sling and the bow have much in common, and it is remarkable that in the West archery has continued to become the popular sport that it is, while slinging is the preserve of a few strange enthusiasts.

Sling Selection, Installation, Inspection, Use, Handling and Maintenance
Slings require special attention because they are almost always subjected to severe wear, abrasion, impact loading, crushing, kinking and overloading.
Because of the severe service expected of slings, errors in determining load weight, and the effect of sling angle on loading, it is recommended that all safe working loads be based on a factor of safety of at least 5:1.
All wire rope slings should be made of improved plow steels and should have independent wire rope cores to reduce the possibility of rope being crushed in service.

Slings removed from service that are not capable of repair should be destroyed and rendered completely unfit for future use.

Sling effect is an effect of accelerating a body in space (as e.g.
It is called sling effect if the momentum and the kinetic energy of the body under consideration are increasing and dynamical friction if they are decreasing.
The effect is based on the fact that gravitational interactions between bodies in space during their passing by each other are the same as in elastic collisions (in which total kinetic energy of the colliding pair is conserved).

The net effect on the speed is zero, although the direction may have changed in the process.
A spinning fl hole actually is surrounded by a region of space, called the ergosphere, within which standing still (with respect to the fl hole's spin) is impossible, as space itself slips in the same direction as the fl hole's spin at the speed of light.
Suffice it to say that there is a subtle relativistic effect (the Lense-Thirring effect) which can transfer angular momentum between any spinning mass and a passing object.

Sling effect in collisions of water droplets in turbulent clouds
We describe and evaluate the contribution of sling effect into the collision rate of the same-size water droplets in turbulent clouds.
We show that already for Stokes numbers exceeding 0.2 the sling effect gives a contribution comparable to Saffman-Turner contribution, which may explain why the latter consistently underestimates collision rate (even with the account of preferential concentration).

best sling ever??? - GameBanshee Forums
Slings are great long-distance weapons, and IMHO, even better than other long-distance weapons due to the superior speed factor and the fact that they are ONE-HANDED weapons.
The subject is still on better slings, of course, it's just that without strength bonuses that bows confer, I am gradually coming round to the point that slings might not be better.
For my conclusion, in gameplay terms, slings will always be inferior to bows, that is, attacks per round, damage, strength bonuses, grandmastery, etc. The sling is somewhat underrated and misunderstood by the developers despite the fact that they are formidable weapons.

The 'sling effect' appears when a fragment of a projectile nucleus emitted after its peripheral collision with a target nucleus is caused to rotate with high spin.
All these effects lead to a non-exponential attenuation of fragments and an increased probability for a fragment to penetrate down to a larger depth in the absorber, than normal.
