For a long time, Slingerland drums were synonymous with such jazz drumming greats as Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich and rock drummer Neil Peart used them from 1974 to 1979.
In the 1970s and 1980s Slingerland changed ownership multiple times until it was acquired from Gretsch by the Gibson musical instruments company in 1994.
Slingerland is once again in production, but they use keller maple shells rather than produce their own.

The next mention of the future Slingerland company is Henry's association with the widow of the owner of The Chicago Correspondence School of Music (with the purchase of twelve correspondence ukulele lessons, the student would receive a free ukulele), from whom he eventually bought the business in 1914.
Slingerland and Ludwig by this time both owned their own tanneries and were already competing daily for the best calfskins coming out of the stockyards, Ludwig for drums, and Slingerland for banjos.
Slingerland went on to became a major manufacturer of drums, and in 1928, H. Slingerland changed the name of the company from the "Slingerland Banjo Company" to the "Slingerland Banjo and Drum Company", and by the end of the 20's, Slingerland was the largest family-owned drum manufacturer in existence.

Slingerland, the ultimate in percussion for over 70 years, is bringing drum production back home to America with a new line of drums handcrafted in Conway, Ark. The Slingerland USA series will feature newly designed instruments as well as traditional favorites such as the Studio King snare and the Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa sets.
Slingerland was founded by H.H. Slingerland in 1912 to produce ukuleles and banjos, and the company introduced its first drums in 1928.
Slingerland USA is based in a facility previously used for Baldwin grand piano production; Baldwin was acquired by Gibson in 2001.

Slingerland, who died Saturday at Albany Memorial Hospital, was a warm and friendly woman who had "an inexhaustible drive," her son, Frank M. Slingerland, 52, of Glenmont, said Wednesday.
Slingerland led numerous building projects at the YMCA's Camp Chingachgook in Kattskill Bay and recently donated funds to transform a guest house on the property into a permanent home for the camp's executive director, LaGatta said.
Lately, Slingerland had co-chaired the capital campaign for a new YMCA in North Albany and would have been present for an opening ceremony, her son said.
