CLUAS | Album Reviews | Slipknot 'Iowa'
Slipknot fell into one of the traps most feared by serious "artistes", they became instantly popular and phenomenally successful.
It will be very hard to find a "Wait and Bleed" type single on this album, "I Am Hated" being the most likely candidate, thanks to its similarity to one of their most successful singles, "Spit It Out".
It's difficult to pick highlights from this album as each of the 14 tracks is quite astounding.

Slipknot (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Slipknot is the official debut album (Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat is their first, but was released independently) by Slipknot, considered by most critics a nu metal album.
The album was released on June 29, 1999 by Roadrunner Records.
A digipak version was released on March 7, 2000, followed by a "Clean" version that was strangely uncensored with a note in the booklet insert that claimed that censorship was "the absolute fascism of America" on March 14; the digipak was re-released on August 9.

On the contrary, supporters of Slipknot note that the majority of their music does not have a rap-based lyrical structure (although the influence of rap is evident in some of their earlier music).
Slipknot is also accused of creating positions within the band for the sole purpose of increasing the total number of members; for example, no other popular bands hold a position for a sampler, even if samples are included in the music.

But even more helpful was their theatrical, attention-grabbing (some critics said ridiculous) image: the band always performed in identical industrial jump suits and homemade Halloween masks, and added to its mysterious anonymity by adopting the numbers zero through eight as stage aliases.
The music scene in Des Moines wasn't much to speak of, and the band's big-time ambition was usually met with disbelief and ridicule, which provided the initial spark for its mostly anonymous stage visuals.
Finally, in the spring of 2000, Slipknot was certified platinum; the first such album in Roadrunner's history.

To make sure the songs on 9.0: Live were as tight as possible, Slipknot recorded dozens of shows over the past year from their tours for The Subliminal Verses.
The visceral quality of the recordings Slipknot sifted through brought back many painful memories: bassist Paul Grey collapsing from exhaustion, percussionist Chris Fehn jumping the wrong way and tearing a ligament in his knee, and Crahan grappling with DJ Sid Wilson 10 feet off the ground and taking a dive headfirst into the concrete.
