It is great that a song of such importance in Nirvana’s history is finally released and, aside from the questionable listening pleasure one might attain from it, I hope to hear the entire demo some day.
The song sounds surprisingly similar to the later studio version and clearly demonstrates how advanced Cobain’s abilities as a musician had become at this point, with the great addition of Dave Grohl in the drum chair.
Indeed, 8 of the songs on “Sliver” ended in the top 10 of a poll conducted by NFC to determine the best songs on the box set.

See Sliver (song) for the song by Nirvana.'' ''Sliver'' (1991) is a novel by U.S. author Ira Levin about the mysterious goings-on in a privately-owned New York highrise apartment building, especially after a new tenant -- an attractive young woman working in publishing -- has moved in.
The song may also refer to incest, though Cobain never clearly said so.In earlier versions of the song Kurt also mentions having his arm burned by his grampas cigar, and other child abuses.
Although the song was originally released as a single in 1990, when the ''Incesticide'' album was released in 1992 a promotional video was made for MTV of the song and the song was given radio air play.

The song is a bulls-eye on an often-missed target.
The highs and lows add the much needed depth that had been missing from past albums and the addition of an orchestra throughout much of this album adds a dimension that will not be explained in words.

Nirvana : Sliver: The Best of the Box - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
The other two songs are a 1990 studio demo of "Sappy," the song first released under the title "Verse Chorus Verse" on the No Alternative various-artists album, and a "Boom Box Version" of "Come as You Are," which is a taped rehearsal take of the song recorded before Nevermind.
All three of these would have fit nicely on the box (and arguably should have been there, especially "Spank Thru," which is the best of the earliest Nirvana-related recordings), and for obsessives, they're enough to warrant a grudging, hesitant purchase.
The real question is, whether Sliver is worthwhile for serious fans who nevertheless for whatever reason don't want three discs of demos and outtakes.

We asked Richard Karch who wrote the song for some clue as to how he came to write the thing.
I guess the impetus for writing the song was the influence the Iraq war was having on everyone, especially me, and finding that people in Redding, CA seemed very supportive of Bush's conquests.
Here's what Sliver had to say about how this song got made in a note to his friend who wrote the song: "After a six day week at the shitshop, I picked up the guitar Sunday morning and started torturing your sweet tune and the attached mp3 file is evidence of some of what happened.

Like that song, this song is mostly just jibberish, but unlike Tourette's this is a bit slower, and sounds sort of poppish.

It was revealed in the liner notes of the Nirvana album that Cobain was concerned that he had not been able to write anything substantial during their last tour and had little material with which to go into the studio.
The song showed that even in the turmoil of his final days, Kurt still had the gift for melody that he had demonstrated so many years earlier in songs like "About a Girl".
