 Slot 1 - a Whatis.com definition   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
Slot 1 and Slot 2 are names for the way Intel P6-based microprocessors connect to a computer motherboard so that it makes contact with the built-in paths called the data bus.
Slot 1 and Slot 2 were developed by Intel as a replacement for its Zero Insertion Force (ZIF) sockets, the most familiar of which is Socket 7 for Intel's Pentium processors.
With the slot approach, the microprocessor is packaged in a cartridge, known as a Single Edge Cartridge, that is easily inserted into a slot designed into the motherboard.

The Slot 1 processors (Pentium II, Pentium III, and Clereron) have shifted to a Socket 370 configuration.

The memory slot just isn't the right place for an interface anymore.
Among them: -no interrupts: yeah, you don't want to use interrupts if you don't have too, but having a card with no interrupt capability is a little annoying.
Now, if you want to implement something like UPC or SHMEM and you have all of the shared address space located on the card plugged into that slot (maybe not incredibly practical, but probably possible) then a DIMM interface may be your best bet.

Ideally, we'd actually prefer to see either the AMR slot take the place of the ISA slot or be removed completely, allowing physical space for 6 PCI slots total, which the Apollo Pro 133A does support.
All four PCI slots are full length, but the sole ISA slot is blocked by front panel I/O connections.
The AMR slot is placed to the left of the AGP slot, so for those not planning to take advantage of AMR, you'll at least have additional space in front of your video card, potentially allowing exotic cooling methods to be applied (yes, we know you guys are out there ;).

 Slot 1 Motherboard - PC-Media Tech Forums
To my knowledge the fastest processor that Intel made for the slot 1 was a 1000Mhz Pentium III, you can also get a slot 1 PIII in 450 to 850 (50Mhz increments) flavors.
The real limit to your max processor is determined by your motherboard chipset and what model it is. If your motherboard is a pentium II you are limited to a 450 PII (or faster celeron with an adapter).
Just because the slot 1 is limited to a 1000Mhz processor that does not mean that it is your maximum speed; there is always the option to overclock a 100Mhz FSB slot 1 to 133 FSB, but this option does carry with it a factor of risk.
