Slovak Academy of Sciences (The Ľudovít Štúr Linguistic Institute)
Slovak linguists do not usually use IPA for phonetic transcription (neither for the Slovak language, nor for other common languages), but rather their own system based on the Slovak alphabet.
The Slovak is related to Czech especially in written form (because the Slovak literary language spelling has been inspired by the Czech spelling), but differs from it both phonetically and grammatically.

The aim of the project Quail, to which the Slovak public paid a great attention, was to assess the effect of the defined intensity of gravity on the early postembryonic development in Japanese quail aboard the orbital station.
In the Slovak Academy of Sciences model experiment with insemination of Japanese quail during hypodynamy was performed.

 Slovak Academy of Sciences
The Slovak Academy of Sciences and Arts was founded by the Parliament of the Slovak Republic in Bratislava on 2 July 1942.
On 18 July 1953 the Slovak National Council enacted legislation renaming the Slovak Academy of Sciences and Arts as the Slovak Academy of Sciences and controlling legislation was passed by the National Council.
In 1966 the Department of Mathematics was renamed the Mathematical Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences.

The commissions for the defense of the candidate dissertations are appointed by the Scientific Collegiums of the Czechoslovak or Slovak Academy of Sciences respectively, and by the Scientific Council of universities and faculties (colleges).
One copy of each dissertation is collected by the organization at which the commission for the dissertation defense has been established (usually institutes of the Czechoslovak or Slovak Academy of Sciences or university or faculty).
In the Slovak Republic, this copy is sent to the University Library in Bratislava which forwards the copy to the Slovak Technical Library or Central Economic Library, both in Bratislava.

The general objectives of the ESSC2 are to generate a European Research Agenda, to contribute to greater commitment by national governments, European bodies and the private sector in supporting the social sciences, and to enhance the role and function of the social sciences and, especially, UNESCO's "Management of Social Transformation" (MOST) Programme.
As a follow-up to the First European Social Science Conference held in Santander (Spain) in 1991, the ESSC2 will be another crucial step in strengthening cooperation and exchange in European social sciences, in discussing the state of social science in post-communist countries, and in promoting comparative and interdisciplinary perspectives in the social sciences.

After receiving his doctorate in 1978 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Materials Science he held a research appointment at MIT and at the Metallurgy and Materials Science Department at Cambridge University until 1980.
