Slug is one-half of the hip-hop duo Atmosphere — his producer, Ant, doesn't tour — which has pioneered a witty, bitter form of hip-hop.
(Slug is often praised or derided as a white rapper, but his father is fl.) The fourth Atmosphere album, "Seven's Travels," was released in September by the punk-rock label Epitaph, and on Tuesday Slug paid brief tribute to two punk-inspired musical ancestors: Husker Du and Elliott Smith.
Slug was at his best when he digressed.

Slug did a couple new tracks, then a couple old tracks, the most being crowd favorites that were of course touching on topics of women, relationships and sex (I've found that many women, especially those that only listen to radio hip-hop, tend to enjoy dirtier or sexier rap songs.

Rapper Slug and producer Ant utilize this cooperative clarity to their advantage; set apart from most indie rappers' clouded beats and convoluted delivery, Atmosphere comes across as a dose of common sense.
Also interesting is the plea to "say shh." Most rappers want the audience to get as loud and rowdy as possible, but with this line, Slug highlights their difference from most other rappers: they're from the quiet Midwest.
At five minutes, it's boring and lengthy; the drawing point to most of Atmosphere's songs is Slug's neo-philosopher urbanism raps, and it seems he failed to show up to write on this dud.

Not their first and not their most recent effort, God Loves Ugly is cross section of Slug as he shares his thoughts about a woman he used to love and others he hopes to.
Slug's vocabulary runs pretty deep and the intensity in his voice makes it sound like he recorded the album from the electric chair.
Although not a very well known rapper Gemini flows like Nas and the whole album with some help from Pharcyde and Prince Paul is a really clean well made album.

Slug attributes that externalizing to two factors: the severe reduction of his "self-medicating in general" and his adoption of a slightly more distanced role in his writing.
Still, Slug, true to his hip-hop persona, is quick to launch praise for helping structure the record, from its old-school-tinted beats to its unmistakable sense of trying to find a balance.
