The term "slurve" is derived from a combination of "curve" and "slider", the two pitches that are worked together to throw a slurve.
The slurve is a difficult pitch to throw because it has a movement that is about half way between a slider and curve ball.
The slurve is a pitch that is most effective when used with a knuckle-curve, or a cut fastball.

 Slurve - RBIdb
Slurve is a method to the madness that is RBI Baseball and is a name given to a pitching style used by a minority of RBI players.
The majority of slurve players rely on location, location, location when pitching and mind games are a rare occurance.
The beauty of slurve is the inconsitency in games, as players may go through stretches of 3-2, 2-1 games and then suddenly partake in a 14-12 slugfest.

K-Rod's slurve is generally around 75-80 MPH and it breaks about 2 feet down and a foot to the left - I kid you not.
K-Rod's slurve is often discussed as one of the nastiest pitches in baseball - Rob Dibble, no stranger to Nastiness, deemed it as the 2nd-nastiest pitch in MLB behind Eric Gagne's change.

Slurve OR Slider - Knuckleball Pitching Community
A Slurve is kinda a hybrid of the two.
posted on 11-10-2005 at 01:45 PM IMO a slurve is just a bad curve or slider, a slider is supposed to have sharp break and a curve needs to have that straight over the top downspin.
The slurve has neither so it tends to be not as effective b/c it almost stays on the same plane has the bat, making it more hittable.

That just about sums up his great pitches, but the quality that sets him apart from the other young studs are his outstanding command and mound maturity (i hope he doesn't become a head hunter one day).
I seem to remember Prior talking about his curveball and he said that he really didn't have a name for it.
Slurve was the closest he said, but it's really in a league of its own when it comes to that.

 Changeup - RBIdb
The ball comes in much slower, making a squiggly motion and hopefully dropping on top of the plate just under the surprised batter's swing.
In anything goes pitching style, a changeup may be thrown at any time while in slurve it can be thrown at any time as long as it is not twice in a row.
Straight pitch players vary in their changeup rules, some allowing them to be thrown a limited amount while others don't allow them at all.

 Slurve - BR Bullpen
A slurve is a breaking ball pitch intermediate between a slider and a curve, hence the name.
Some coaches and commentators dislike the slurve, feeling that it is a sign of sloppiness on the part of the pitcher, who should throw either a distinctly curve-like or slider-like pitch.
Others do not make such fine distinctions and view it as being just one more kind of breaking ball.

They pitch the slider as if they are throwing a curve, and the ball comes out in a big, sweeping flat curve.
Yes, I would think an actual big-league pitcher (and, incidentally, the best I've ever seen at fielding his position -- to see Jim Kaat go after a ball hit to his right was like watching a cat pounce) would have a pretty good handle on what pitches are worth distinguishing.
And while "slurvy" is rare (as are "slidery" and "curvy" [in the baseball sense], I would imagine), "slurve" is an old and perfectly respectable term, as can be seen from the Kaat quote and the thousands of Google hits.
