Smalandia, or Småland, is a province of Sweden and at the funeral of King Gustav I of Sweden in 1560 the province was granted its arms.
The first coat of arms for Smalandia, granted in 1560 pictured a red crossbow with roses on a golden shield but at the coronation of John III of Sweden in 1569 a new coat of arms was granted.

Storregementen, also regiments of the land (landsregementen), these regiments were organized by Gustav II Adolph in the end of the 1610s from the smaller units fänika and fana raised in the various parts of Sweden during the time of Gustav Vasa:
The original provincial regiments (landskapsregementen) were raised by splitting the old Grand Regiments, forming 20 infantry (actually 21 as Smalandia Regiment was split into Kronoberg and Jönköping Regiments) and eight cavalry regiments as written in the Swedish constitution of 1634.
As time went on, new regiments were raised by conscription, created by splitting old regiments or enlisting soldiers from various parts of the Swedish Realm, there were also times when temporary regiments were raised, these regiments were called man regiments (männingsregementen).

Smalandia Grand Regiment, Smålands storregemente (also Regiment of the Land in Smalandia, Landsregementet i Småland) was one of the nine grand regiments organized by Gustavus Adolphus in the late 1610s and split into smaller regiments in the 1620s.
Raised from fänikor in the province of Smalandia and in the counties of Kalmar and Kronoberg in 1616 and counting 3,000 men.
In 1623, the regiment was split into three smaller regiments, Kronoberg Regiment, Kalmar Regiment and the Smalandia Cavalry Regiment.
