	SMALL SOLDIERS
		Action/Adventure: Some small town kids try to prevent a platoon of sophisticated military toy figures -- which have come alive and can think for themselves -- from finding and destroying a group of pacifist toy figures.
		In the small suburban town of Winslow Corners, Ohio, Alan Abernathy (GREGORY SMITH) is the teenage son of Stuart (KEVIN DUNN) and Irene Abernathy (ANN MAGNUSON) who runs his father's small corner toy store when his dad isn't around.
		"Small Soldiers" -- a more violent and adventurous tale that may catch some parents off guard -- however, lacks the fun, charm and most importantly, the originality that the earlier film so easily exuded.

		The script isn't half bad, with some half witty lines when the soldiers recruit a team of barbie-esque dolls to help them in their battle, but unfortunately, the acting from the humans in this film takes the entire thing down a notch.
		Even the soldiers, which are excellently animated, never come off as fully developed characters of their own.
		It's not hard to believe that these soldiers could be dangerous to humans, the problem is, it's hard to even care about the humans, who's characters are simply too bland.

		A lot of this may be due to the background of each character; while Peltzer's supposed to be a dull small town boy, Alan's got a reputation as a troublemaker and a wise-ass, a kid who's been kicked out of a couple schools because of his mischief.
		The fact that Small Soldiers represents Phil Hartman's final screen appearance has been lamented sufficiently elsewhere, but it must be noted what a disappointing swan song it is. Hartman's just fine as technofascist Phil Frimple, but it's a small and undistinguished role, as are all of the supporting characters.
		Small Soldiers is no exception to that rule as it offers very solid efforts in all of the usual areas.
