Smallville: The Complete Fifth Season worked best when it catered to the strengths of the series and it did this better than at any time since the second season.
Final Thoughts: Smallville: The Complete Fifth Season was the best season of the show in a couple of years and better in some ways since it didn't rely on the freak of the week premise the first two seasons seemed to shove down our collective throats.
The series had been in a slump due to some bad decisions on where to take the characters in the previous two seasons and the return of a longer thread involving Zod proved to be just what the doctor ordered to change the course of the show in favor of the fans.

When I first heard that the WB was doing a show about Clark Kent in the days before he became Superman, I honestly thought it was going to be an animated series, but when the first episode was first broadcast on October 16, 2001, I was instantly surprised.
In the present day, Clark Kent (Tom Welling) is just starting the transition from adolescence to adulthood, something that will be especially difficult for our young hero since he has superhuman strength and abilities that no ordinary teenager would (or could) possess.
Clark soon learns that he arrived the same time as the destructive meteor shower that besieged Smallville inside of a spaceship as a toddler.

Veteran stuntman Christopher Sayour was in serious condition late Tuesday after falling from a tower during the filming of the WB Network drama "Smallville" in Vancouver.
Sayour, 35, the stunt coordinator for the show and primary stuntman for "Smallville" star Tom Welling, was badly injured in what one source described as a "freak accident" during filming Tuesday morning on location near the township of Langley.
Production on "Smallville" halted after the accident but is expected to resume today, sources said.
